These are a set of inexpensive heat shields for soldering copper pipe near floor joists, wall studs, or other things likely to catch fire. You can buy this exact same thing in the plumbing section of a local hardware store--but pay 3x the price.There is zero point in trying to use this for any type of arc welding (as Americans understand the word). Weld pools are around 2000 degrees F and this (supposedly) only goes up to 1800 F. And it's way too small to guard anything against weld spatter.The product is solid, but I wish they'd update their description.

Each blanket measures 12”x12” so they’re not going to be too cumbersome nor too small for practically any job application. If you are a welder, plumber, HVAC technician, these welding blankets are the perfect size for your toolbox to avoid an accidental fire from your torch/welder. They have a split halfway up the middle with hole cut out for using around a joint and eyelets for hanging in place if you’re not welding/soldering on a flat surface to protect your walls, floors and clothes. I’m sure you have a plethora of work clothing that look like moths have been there. Use these to combat that. They’re made of a high quality pre-oxidized wire that is fire retardant with heat insulation that is the same material that is used in fire protection clothing. Fantastic mats that are very versatile. You’ll need a few sets of these to keep in your vehicle, home and toolbox if you work on the road. You will be surprised how much you will come to rely on these blankets that will prove to save you time and money. The price is just the cherry on top because they’re so affordable but a necessity for any professional or handyman.
