This fence post anchor spike is very well made of heavy duty steel with a well done coat of black powder finish. I liked that this spike included instructions to use a short 8" piece of 4x4 inserted into the spike box so that I could hammer the spike into the ground. Without this small but necessary piece of instruction, I might have damaged the steel by trying to hammer directly on to the spike itself, or might have damaged the fence post itself by trying to hammer directly on the 4x4 fence post instead of this sacrificial piece of 4x4.The anchor spike comes with all the necessary screws for attaching the 4x4 withing the box of the ground spike so using this spike to set my fence posts is quite easy. Overall, this spike works well and is reasonably priced.

First, I love these anchors, they are so much easier than concrete. But be aware that a lot of the anchors are actually two pieces, and you have to assemble it with bolts. The two piece are ok, but one piece welded together is always better.Fortunately this model is welded and one piece. The weld spots are a bit sloppy, but it's probably fine. Also realize that 16 inches is too short for a lot of the things pictured. It will not hold up a deck like they have pictured, and I wouldn't even trust it with a mail box. For a mail box, 24 inches is the absolute minimum, even though I prefer 30. And for a deck, I would go with 30 or 36 inch anchors. However, 16 inches is good for lots of things - braces, small picket fences, footings, etc.I also think the fasteners included here are a bit wimpy. I would use sturdier ones.

As is often the case with me, I tend to get things for applications different from the manufacturer's intention. This is another one of those cases. I have solar light fixtures on either side of my front steps that are a little smaller than the 3.6 by 3.6 ID of these posts, but the lamp still fits in it adequately. I needed this as a base because someone trampling through my garden kicked the lamp and broke the plastic stake which secured it in the ground. I like the lights, so decided to get the fence post holder to give me a heavy duty spike that won't be broken by any unwelcome visitors creeping around my house. Stakes are a solid heavy duty metal, with welded seams and a good size base spike for penetrating the ground. Even in the winter, on a warmer day, I was able to drive the stake well into the ground. I will get it a couple inches deeper in the spring and also order another one so the two lamps will match. My only comment is to make sure you measure your post before buying these as visually they look a little small for a 4x4 fence post, but then all wood is undersized from it's stated dimensions, so these may work just fine. Just measure first to be safe.
