About this item

  • Thrives in USDA zones 3a-8b
  • Mature size 12-18 inches W x 15-20 feet H
  • Full sun to partial shade
  • Evergreen year round interest

This selection of Arborvitae takes skinny to the max with its sword-like silhouette. Use it to make an exclamation point in garden designs, or fit it into a very narrow bed. Certain to be iconic plant in well-designed landscapes everywhere. A very cool evergreen that adds elegance to your garden all year round! This narrow columnar selection of ‘Wintergreen’ has excellent hardiness and dark green winter foliage color. The tight, columnar habit makes this a great specimen or screen for narrow sites. Use as a bold accent plant in mixed borders.

This product was advertised as being in a 2-gallon pot. This would mean that the pot would measure 9 inches tall by 8.5 inches wide (see attached diagram). Clearly from the pictures I took, it doesn't have those measurements.I have been specifically looking for Sting Arbor Vitae. It is supposed to do well even in Utah's alkaline soil. It is said to stay small, which is critical for it to act as a sun and wind screen on my small north side yard. It is supposed to be fine in a part shade environment. I haven't been able to find this new cultivar in the local nurseries, so I did what I don't like doing--purchase a plant online.Since the seller is dishonest about what size the pot is, I don't trust that these plants are the specific new cultivar of arbor vitae. If this is an older variety of arbor vitae, then it would outgrow the space I have for them, even if they did thrive in this particular location. I would have to start over. By the time this process is complete, I will be quite elderly! This experience with this seller has made me lose trust in buying online in general (even more than I have). Clearly these growers are not honest people. But more than that other growers should shun such actions as damaging to the industry as a whole.

2 gallon pot was basically all soil and a lousy 8in tall twig. I laughed when I opened up the package. Don’t waste your money on this. Tiny, roots were completely out of the soil. Bad value.

So I figured I was getting a young plant fur the price. No surprise there. But receiving a box with a tiny planter that had been jumbled around with a twig no larger than a chopstick half in n out of whatever little dirt was left in the pot. Whatta joke. Do not buy this “sting” tree unless it’s from your local nursery. It’s wayyyyy to tiny and delicate to survive shipping.

The entire plant is brown! I know it could be dormant but this type is hardy to zone 3 so it should look green really!

My Sting arrived in all the proper packaging and looks wonderful (his tips are bronzey because it's December). This plant is only barely in production still, so I'm psyched to have one 😊
