This latch is widely used by all the major boat and yacht manufacturers, bait well lids, hatches, center console doors, tackle units, and drawer units，electrical enclosures, and is great for new applications as well.

Locks don’t really work and it’s very easy to break into, barely a deterrent. Install was a pain as the bolts are short and the backing is the same size as the top so hope has to be perfect for it to fit. Took some tampering to get the right size hole as my hole saw set didn’t have the exact size.

When locked, you can unwittingly pull it open. It doesn't take much. The metal core it mentions, is tiny and latches across a tiny piece of plastic. You could call this a deterrent, but a firm tug can open it.I should also say it was a royal pain in the button to install, if everything doesn't line up perfectly you have to modify things, that I don't mind, it's finding out they're useless after all that effort.
