I’ve been using an aluminum griddle from the stove type side burner from another grill, on my small gas grill that I use most often for cooking bacon and burgers. That griddle has a corner pocket to catch grease but I find it a bit tedious to deal with during clean up. This one has drain holes on one side, so I no longer have to deal with grease buildup on the old griddle, and what doesn’t burn up in the lava rocks will drip into the grill’s drip can for easy disposal. The other advantage of this griddle is the dual sides with one side being flat while the other has raised fins that will leave those beautiful grill marks everyone seems to love. I really enjoy cooking on the grill but flame management can be a chore with some meats, so I’ve come to rely on the griddle more often than not for cooking burgers and not having them overcooked due to flair-ups. So I’ll be looking forward to using this throughout the summer when I’m not using the smoker. Then again, I may be using this on the smoker also.

We used this in our camping trip last month (March 2025), and I was cooking inside a tent when my daughter, who has asthma and is sensitive to scents, noticed that she smelled weird stuff from the cast-iron griddle. She needs to go outside to be able to breathe normally, and I have to continue using it for the first time. Before bringing this to our camping trip, I washed it with soap and water at home and preheated/seasoned it on the stove top. I thought all the chemicals and everything would be washed out on that preseasoning, but it seems like it did not. If only this had no protective coating, I will have no issue with the weird smell.
