Great bow for the money. I didn’t realize that the violin I had was 3/4 size, so the bow didn’t fit in the case, but I was able to store it in the cardboard case in which it came, outside the violin case.Tip: If you have a new bow and new rosin, scratch or sand down the rosin to make the surface rough, so it will stick to the new smooth bow.

This bow was purchased to replace an older bow that was worn out and loosing hair. Some of the reviews will say this bow requires a lot of rosin. This is true in the beginning when you use it for the first time. My child’s violin teacher said this was normal and applied the rosin for us, and also said it is not an issue. She also inspected it and said it was well made, other than the fact that the screw and hole for the handle will need to be cleaned out with a cloth + WD40 (which I later did) to prevent the screw threads from wearing out over time and hence loosening up.Other than that, the teacher said this was a really good buy and my child no longer has any regrets about it.

When reviewing items, I try to factor in the price and intended purpose... obviously when compared to much more expensive bows, this would probably only earn 1 or 2 stars. But it was only $20, and it works fine, so I think that is sufficient for a 4 star rating. If your kid is a prodigy and has both the skill and a high-quality violin to justify a more expensive bow, by all means go that route. But this bow was a perfect replacement for my first grader who is using an inexpensive hand-me-down violin with a bow that had begun to wear out.

You get what you pay for--Great value bow, but you can tell it's cheaper. Definitley lighter than the bow I was borrowing. It's taking longer than expected to "break it in"... of course, I'm a beginner, so what do I know?Overall, I'm satisfied... good for a beginner! but use a lot of rosin!! and then more rosin! and then even more rosin!

This item was bought for a young violinist as a surprise birthday present. He was thrilled with it since his old violin bow needed replacing. I am therefore extremely pleased with my choice of gift and would thoroughly recommend the item.

having just received it, I'm already going to ask for a refund.. First of all, it looks used. 2nd: the hair is so loose, you cannot play with it unless you want to play with the wood of the bow instead of the hair.. AVOID at all cost!! Oh yes, hair is already coming off.

convient très bien à l'usage. second archet pour répétition . attention, nécessité de l'usage de pas mal de colophane pour ne pas qu'il soit trop glissant au début ( dixit mon petit garçon) . il alterne alors usage du nouvel archet et de l'ancien

It's a perfectly acceptable bow for a beginner player. The wood, workmanship and finish are significantly better than other cheap Chinese factory bows I have played around with. These are (or at least the batch I got) very lightweight, about 45 grams for the 1/2 size. Length is about 24 inches (5-6 inches shorter than a standard 4/4 violin bow)I am a serious amateur player and I use this as a cheap subsitute for a Italian style (i.e. very lightweight, whippy) Baroque bow.The "brazilwood" -- which could actually be one of a number of species -- is non-springy which is good for use as an Italian Baroque bow. If the tension is kept low, you can have a soft attack (particularly for double and triple stops) without the bow trying to bounce around. For a beginner, I think this could serve a kid well for about 2 years, and then the next step up will be something in the $100 to $150 range.

This would be a decent bow if Amazon would package it properly. The first one I got was snapped in half. The second was twisted and bent so that it could not be used. I think it would help if they didn't drop it into a flimsy box with some crumpled paper and call it done. From what I could tell with the two I received the wood varies quite a bit, but the fittings are ok, and it was well-strung. I couldn't tell about the balance. But it seems like it would be ok for a beginning student. Not great, but ok for the price.
