About this item

  • 13 mm square parabolic shackle
  • Double bolting shackle in the lock body
  • 2 keys supplied
  • Security level 15
  • Automatic keyhole cover provides protection again dirt and corrosion

Identical to its big brother lock (the gr an it x-plus 540) the U54 mini is a shorter shackle version of abus's flagship bicycle U-lock from Abus. Originally designed to accommodate locking around the reinforced parking meters in San Francisco, this lock is ideal for urban settings and high quality bicycles needing strong theft protection. The U 54 mini features a patented 13mm Temper hardened steel square parabolic shackle and a double bolting shackle/lock body. Patented Abus power cell technology offers the highest protection against hitting and pulling attacks while the x-plus key cylinder offers extremely high protection from picking. The U 54 mini can be Keyed alike with other Abus locks featuring the same x-plus cylinder - very convenient for multi-lock and multi-bike households. All Abus locks offer industry leading corrosion resistance.

Wasn’t too heavy and seems well built. Easy locking and unlocking. Might be a little small to lock both frame and rear wheel but otherwise a good size.Addendum: finding a mount that allows this lock to be attached to the bike frame is difficult at best. The ABUS USH 540 mount does NOT fit this lock. Haven't yet found a solution that is guaranteed to work. The ABUS site isn't very helpful. Fortunately the lock is small enough to fit in a fanny pack. I just wish it came with a matching mount.

Did a lot of research and comparisons with other top lock brands like Kryptonite and in the end this one suited my needs the best. Came down to this and the Kryptonite NEW YORK FAHGETTABOUDIT MINI for me. I wanted something light and small that I could easily carry around in my backpack without compromising on security. The Abus is half the weight of the Fahgettaboudit but a bit more length to it which is what I wanted. Really like the build of it, feels solid and light at the same time. Like having one of the keys with the LED light which is handy in the dark. First few weeks with it have been great and barely notice the weight when carrying it around and my bike hasn't been stolen so that's a plus! Definitely looks like a lock most thieves would pass on and if you make it snug against the frame, wheel and grounded post it's probably not worth their risk with a grinder.

Good portable lock for your bicycle. Light enough to carry 2, one for each wheel.Abus sells several different carriers for the lock. Depending on the vendor, the carriermay not be included. The picture Amazon uses is the older Abus 54 model, not the Abus 540 mode.I use both models depending on what fits best.

Only dislike was no mounting system, but don't need one. Fits around my frame and my bottle cage. Outland USA shipped the order the SAME day I placed the order. Unbelievable! Their customer service was second to none. Very knowledge and very courteous. Rare these days.

Easy to use, fits comfortably in assorted places where I need to lock . Lighter than my older U lock, but no lighter in security. Recommend.

I had this Lock for 1 year and it worked fine as long as the lock was not left outside over night. Now I live somewhere I have to lock my bike outside and over the last 6 months the lock has become unusable. It is not made to hold up in cold weather. The issue is that the lock itself gets stuck and it becomes impossible to open or close. Given the high price I would not recommend this lock

First off, I didn't get this at a discount or anything, I am just a broke college student who really didn't want my only transportation to get stolen and I want to give my opinion to help others make a choice on a lock.So..I've had this lock a couple months now and it is holding up perfectly. I thought not having a mount would bother me, but I've been carrying it in my backpack and cannot feel the weight. There's some clever ways of mounting it that other people have posted on here, so those are options as well.As for the lock itself, I thoroughly researched U-locks and this was the best option for me. It has the highest level of security, which is important in Downtown LA/Hollywood where I usually leave my bike, and bikes even get lifted out of the enclosed Metro Bike Hubs! The lock is made in Germany, with a higher grade steel. The locking mechanism is very high quality. Putting in the key is very smooth, and it never sticks. I watched some videos of Kryptonites being picked extremely quickly, and what's the point of having a huge shackle if the thing can be picked in little time? It's a little pricier than "comprable" locks, but I thought, I'd rather spend $30 more on a lock now for quality, than another $800 on a new bike + accessories + another lock when a lesser quality one gets picked/broken.I recommend this lock. I have come to trust Abus quality. (At least their German-made locks as I understand some of them are made in China and I have no experience with those)

I guess one begets the other, but the Granit works well so far: Criteria 1) the d latches and the the lock turns and 2) I still have a bike in my possession.Despite it's diminutive size it is pretty heavy (I tend to wear my lock as I can't stand the rattling that comes with a d-lock frame bracket). However it is lighter that the Kryptonite equivalent, which I had to return - it was so heavy I was worried I would develop a scoliosis.

This lock is incredibly well made. I am very cautious as to what type of lock I use because in Philadelphia, you really need the best possible locking system available. Its not as heavy as the Kryptonite NY mini and in my opinion, its locking mechanism is far superior to that of Kryptonite. Using this lock in conjunction with a quality cable lock will usually be enough of an incentive to feel safe. However, no lock is totally devoid of picking or cutting provided the thief has time. I feel much more at ease knowing that this lock has the German engineering built into the mechanism and uses a higher grade of steel as opposed to the Chinese steel used in most locks. Some of the Abus locks are made in China but this one clearly states, "Made in Germany" right on the lock. The more popular, lower priced locks made by Abus are not German made and may not adhere to the same standards. This lock, quite simply, feels solid and when the key is turned you can feel the difference in terms of quality as opposed to Kryptonite, which feels cheap. I am very pleased with this lock and expect that my bike will be exactly where I left it each time I secure it.

I ride my bike college. The semester is over and I've not had a single problem with the U-luck after using it every single day. The lock is certainly not light-weight, but it seems to work very well and be extremely well-made.
