Specifically got this because we wanted the strap between the legs and I made absolute sure I ordered that one. (Hard to find a coast guard approved youth jacket with a crotch strap) Disappointed that it did not provide that.

When we started going to the pool we used the life vest they had. They were probably all donated at some point, the problem we ran in to is they didn't fit that well. The back would push her forward and it was a bit hard for her to keep her face out of the water. With the one we odered now it fits very well, has the perfect amount of float material and doesn't push her forward in the water as she is learning to swim. It does not have the strap that goes between the legs.It fits snug enough and is adjustable so that strap is not needed.
