Optimum recently upgraded my internet from 200 mb/s to 300 mb/s, and I needed to upgrade my modem to take advantage of the new speed. It's a refurbished unit, so I also bought the extended warranty for piece of mind. Setup was easy enough. Unplug the old modem, unhook the cable wire, swap the modem and power everything up. The fun part comes in when you call Optimum for them to provision it. It's a 50/50 gamble that you'll either get someone that knows what they're doing or you wont. I was fortunate to experience both. After setting everything up, powering everything up and waiting for the lights to do their thing, I contacted Optimum through chat. The agent I spoke to went through the motions, only to tell me this modem doesn't work. They then gave me a list of compatible modems that were either too expensive or slower than the current one. After frustratingly packaging everything back up and preparing to initialize a return, I read a few more reviews. I saw a lot of similar stories, with most reviews saying to try again. So I did. This time I got someone that knew what they were doing. Got everything up and running in less than 5 minutes with no issues. My big suggestion is if you have a separate router for wireless, unplug it for a minute and plug it back in AFTER provisioning the modem and verifying everything works. I had wireless speed of 100 mb/s, and after a restart it hit almost 300, which the router is already capable of. So if you have this type of issue with wireless, try that first.

So the first of these that I purchased from Amazon was defective, so I returned it and got a replacement. I know have the second one up and running, and it's working great. The first thing to know about this is that it is one of the modems that is compatible with Optimum and provides both internet and telephone (VOIP) service. It is a modem, not a router—which means that it's ideal if you want to use your own router or WiFi router instead of Optimum's modem/router. In my case, due to the thick plaster walls in my home, I use a mesh router system with a powerline backhaul, and I wanted to use that for home WiFi. I had a lot of issues with the Optimum equipment, and I definitely didn't want to use the WiFi network broadcasted by their device. Thus, I purchased this modem. To get it up and running, I swapped out the old modem/router with the TM822A and then reached out to Optimum via chat on their website. I told the rep I needed help provisioning a new modem. Five minutes later, the device was set up and working. There seemed to be no user-adjustable settings on this device, as it's designed to be plugged in, set up by the ISP, and that's it.It having been many years since I had a separate modem and router, I forgot that the the modem itself doesn't create a LAN with private addresses. Instead, it acts as a bridge, assigning via DHCP the public IP address to your router or single computer attached to the modem. Nonetheless, you can go to 192.168.100.1 to access the modem's web interface page that shows status, hardware/firmware versions, an event log, and CM state. There does NOT seem to be a way to log in. There is an "Advanced" tab that just responds with "403 - Forbidden" and everything else is read only. Also, for those who also have cable television through Optimum, I found out some important information along the way that I'd like to share. If you have Altice Mini cable boxes, these boxes will only work if you have an Altice One cable box (which is an integrated cable box, modem, and WiFi router) or if you use the Optimum-provided modem/WiFi router (in my case, the Ubee). According to the rep who came to my home recently, the Altice Mini boxes must be connected to WiFi through the Optimum-provided WiFi router. If you have your own modem, the Altice Mini boxes can't connect properly and you'll lose all of your channels. Optimum has different Samsung cable boxes you need if you are using your own modem. So make sure that if you are replacing Optimum-rented equipment with your own modem, you replace your Altice Minis with the Samsung cable boxes.Overall, I am very pleased with this device so far. It's a no frills option that seems appropriate if you are looking to use your own WiFi router and just need a modem (either for internet only OR for internet and up to two lines of voice).

My internet kept going up so I finally gave in and bought the modem to save $10/month for the rental fee from optimum. It’s smaller than the modem that optimum provides but it works like it should and set up for simple. You can setup the device on your own or call customer service and they’ll do it for you. It only took less than 5 minutes for me. I would advise hooking up the modem with the cables and then call.

I bought this because it was recommended by optimum cable service so I do not have to rent their device and pay the monthly rental. It’s been almost a year still works well. Worth buying!

Tried to connect this to my internet provider and it was never able to connect. Had all the wires and everything else checked. Old modem worked fine. Definitely a problem with the modem. I'm the lunkhead for waiting beyond the 90 day warranty to return it though.Lesson learned; beware of refurbished products or install them right away!

I just installed this modem to replace my Optimum provided modem, and so far am very happy. After hooking it up, a call to Optimum and 10 minutes with a technician was all the effort needed to get it registered and working. Optimum charges $10 a month for their modem, so with this, and my two new Roku, and Hulu Live, I now only need Optimum for internet service. Even with HBO, Showtime, and Netflix, I am saving about $60 per month on total TV costs. Cutting the cable (at least for TV) couldn't be easier.

Got it for my optimum internet. Good quality for the price. This predicted lasted less than a year. Adjusted the rates to 1 star. I expected the box to last me longer. I had to buy again.
