Product Description

Will this fit on all motorcycles?

No, but it fits on the motorcycles listed on our Fitment Chart (found under User Guide PDF) as long as your throttle has 3 mm of space between the throttle housing and grip flange. Some motorcycles on our Fitment Chart may need the rubber grip flange pulled back to achieve the necessary 3 mm of space for the ATLAS Throttle Lock.

I have a question and need to talk to ATLAS Moto's Technical Support. Can I do that here? Yes! Follow these steps:

  1. Go to the “Looking for specific info?” section at the bottom of this product page.
  2. Ask your question to the AI bot, which is not ATLAS Moto technical support, but you’re getting close…
  3. Below that text box where you wrote your question, you will read “Don't see the answer you're looking for?” Now, click the button that says “Post your question” and the question will be sent to ATLAS Moto technical support. We will reply within 1 business day. Other viewers may reply with incorrect information, so please wait for a reply from ATLAS Moto.

What’s the difference between a throttle lock and traditional cruise control?

A throttle lock holds your throttle position using friction but not always your speed, whereas traditional cruise control maintains a constant speed but doesn't hold your throttle position. This sounds a bit confusing, so we will explain.

The ATLAS Throttle Lock uses a friction pad to apply pressure against your throttle housing when the engagement button is pressed in. Think of a brake pad (friction pad) pressing against a brake rotor (throttle housing). This friction is what holds your throttle position. If you are on a flat, straight road, the ATLAS Throttle Lock will also maintain your exact speed. This will continue until you approach a hill, at which point you will need to adjust your throttle manually. You can either leave the unit engaged and rotate the throttle with the added friction, or disengage the unit and return to your factory throttle response.

Why are motorcyclists adding the ATLAS Throttle Lock to their throttles?

The ATLAS Throttle Lock allows riders to relax their grip, shake out their hands, adjust their gear, and log more miles without the threat of dreaded arm pump. Additionally, it significantly reduces nerve pain in your hand, as you no longer need to maintain a tense grip constantly on the throttle. Cruise control is only good for long, boring straight roads. It’s flat out frustrating in group rides, in the flow of traffic or on any of the scenic roads motorcyclist enjoy.

Round the World Headlight with ATLAS Throttle Lock
We Ride Too!

Before leaving on an around the world trip, I purchased a throttle lock. On the road, I broke my right wrist. I rode for months before I could get proper surgery.

During that time, all the shortcomings of that throttle lock were magnified. I researched all the available throttle locks on the market and I was disappointed with the lack of function. After riding through 28 countries with vastly different climates and terrain, I knew exactly what I needed in a throttle lock.

What makes the ATLAS Throttle Lock so great?

We made the ATLAS for YOU, not just your motorcycle.

Here are a few key differences that truly set the ATLAS apart from anything else on the market:

  • Smooth Riding Experience: The ATLAS engages and disengages without any change in speed. Other designs force you to decelerate when disengaging their units. No more lurching on the freeway.
  • Ergonomic and Intuitive: Using non-dominant fingers, twisting or reaching to set a throttle lock is dangerous for obvious reasons. The ATLAS is activated with your thumb and is always within reach.
  • The ATLAS Doesn't Require Grip Space: Other designs demand a portion of your grip. The ATLAS simply mounts to the throttle tube between the grip and the throttle housing, leaving you with a full grip.
  • Bolts on within 10 minutes: During installation, there's no need to remove grips, handguards, heated grips, bar end mirrors... the ATLAS works perfectly with them all.

Should I buy the Bottom Kit or the Top Kit for my motorcycle?

3 mm Gap to mount the ATLAS Throttle Lock

First, is there enough room for the ATLAS?

  • All you need is a gap of 3mm or greater between the grip and the throttle housing. That's roughly 3 bank cards thick.
  • Nearly every motorcycle has a throttle tube and a throttle housing. The ATLAS mounts to the throttle tube, which allows the ATLAS to rotate with your throttle, and most importantly your thumb.
  • Once the ATLAS is engaged, a friction pad on a stopper arm hinges out from the ATLAS and presses against side of the throttle housing. That friction pad is what holds the ATLAS in place.

ATLAS Throttle Lock - Bottom Kit

You'll want the Bottom Kit...

  • If there’s a heated grip wire that comes out the top half of the rubber grip flange.
  • If you have more than 1.5 inches (38mm) of clearance between the inner plastic throttle tube (under the rubber grip) and the gas tank at a full right turn.
  • If there's a bulge, bracket or object sticking out of the top half of the throttle housing that would interfere with the body of the ATLAS.
  • If there's no other interferences, then it's a personal preference.

ATLAS Throttle Lock - Top Kit

You'll want the Top Kit...

  • If there’s a heated grip wire that comes out the bottom half of the rubber grip flange.
  • If you have less than 1.5 inches (38mm) of clearance between the inner plastic throttle tube (under the rubber grip) and the gas tank at a full right turn.
  • If there's a bulge, bracket or object sticking out of the bottom half of the throttle housing that would interfere with the body of the ATLAS.
  • If there's no other interferences, then it's a personal preference.

ATLAS Throttle Lock installation kit

Tell me more about the Friction Pads.

The ATLAS Throttle Lock was designed to be used with friction pads. Friction pads can last 60,000 miles or more as long as you choose the right pad for your bike.

The friction pads come in 4 different thicknesses. You will only need to apply one pad to your ATLAS. Watch our installation videos and follow the instructions to determine which friction pad works best.

Send us any questions you have.

Great throttle lock on my 2021 Honda CB650RA. Easy to install, holds accurate speed, takes up very little room and does not get in the way of hand movement, easy to operate. Very well made with cast aluminum. Highly Recommend.

Works well and quite sturdy. Holds up to 80 mph with no problem or slippage. It was slightly confusing which rubber spacer I should use based on what the instructions specifically tell you so I just followed the spirit of what the instructions were saying and ignored any specific recommendation on the rubber spacer. Otherwise the instructions are concise and easy to follow. Good product and I would buy it again!

Holds the throttle well doesn’t vibrate loose. I had no issue fitting it, just take care not to over tighten the grub screw.

I have considered buying this for years after hearing how great it is from other riders but I always perceived the cost as too high and tried less expensive alternatives that I never liked. This is the one. It is well made and should last over the course of multiple bikes being easy to remove and install on a new bike. The function is perfect, just hit the button and it locks the throttle. It works by pressing up against the throttle housing and has enough hood to feel secure but you are always able to move the throttle manually just with a little more force. Safety is a big concern for me and this is a well thought out solution. It works very well on my 2022 Yamaha Tenere 700. I wish I had bought this instead of the other cheaper locks I tried first.

The unit is heavy and you feel that on the throttle. Positioning is everything,BMW F800GS Adventure (2014)A Lower mount kit does not work. It just does not fit and can get hung upthe upper unit does fit but its a finicky fit. You have to get it tight enough it does not slip but not to tight so it does not pinch the throttle tube. On the F800 - thats like one very narrow opportunity.Tiny screw - the whole system hinges on a tiny screw. If it falls out, you lose your $135 dollar plus investment.First ride: All that said, it worked great and much simpler to operate than the Kako twist unit I've had on the bike for years.Unfortunately, first time out something slipped on the unit and it had popped lose and was just hanging on my throttle like a loose bracelet. The screw was still in, I removed it and have not had a chance figure out why it failed. So my journey has been - Upper unit, which did not fit and is in fact unsafe because it can stick, a lower unit balancing act between tight enough to not slip but not to tight as to pinch the throttle tube. The 30 minutes it worked it did work well, however, I'm wondering how reliable it will be when I do get it working. The unit build quality is excellent - but the design needs to be lighter and with design improvements for the friction pads and clamping mechanism.Update: As mentioned in other reviews, and it may depend on your vehicle, it is a finicky device to get just right on a BMW F800GSA. But I did it! Last summer I took a two week trip through the west on and off road and it held up. Then winter came and I turned on my heated grips, the throttle started sticking, without the cruise control set to on. note I could only get this to work with the thinnest friction pad & also note I am unwilling to cut my BMW heated grips for any custom fitting.Bottom Like - too much trouble on the 2014 BMW F800GS - probably unsafe.

I ordered the Bottom Kit, but found out after receiving it that I needed the Top Kit version. I contacted Atlas and asked if they would do an exchange. They emailed me prepaid postage and I shipped mine back. The turn around time after they received the one I sent them was about a day. All told it took less than two weeks to do the exchange and it went smoothly with no hassle. I was very pleased with the customer service. The product itself seems to be of a high quality build. The instillation instructions are clear and work as they are written. I believe there are also videos available online. The product is very well engineered both in terms of instillation and operation. Once you figure out the correct friction pad to use the instillation only takes a few minutes and it operates as a fairly simple friction lock. It does a good job of holding the throttle in place and can easily be twisted back to off in an emergency without needing to turn the lock off. I rarely write reviews, but this product impressed me enough that I decided it deserved it.I will note one thing to watch out for when installing. The instructions say to use the largest friction pad that will fit. However you need to test it and make sure that if you twist the throttle on it will snap all the way back as long as the lock is off. On my instillation a small rubber seam on the throttle housing was just enough to catch on the friction pad and prevent the throttle from snapping back. It was easily fixed by using a smaller pad. This was barely worth noting, but I suppose if someone was in a rush and didn't test it properly it could cause a problem.
