The concept of the item is great. I gave it to a young friend for her 6th birthday. She and her dad, a great gardener, looked forward to planting the items and doing the projects together. Unfortunately, the two items they were most excited about, the loofa and the gourds, did not sprout.I am writing this review a while past the purchase date because I only found out when I visited their home later in the summer. I felt badly that the gift was somewhat of a disappointment.

I am really happy with this garden - the directions were very easy, it wasn't particularly messy and my 4 year old was super excited to start this.The carton gets very wet so if placing on wood to sprout, put a plate or plant dish underneath because the carton is cardboard. This comes with everything you need - the carton to grow, seed packets, soil pellets (you add water), ID markers w/ pencil, clear easy instructions and some nice info on the seeds included and how to care for the plants after they have sprouted. This would make a great rainy day craft, gift, etc. Overall I am very happy we purchased this. Note that depending upon which version you buy, some of the seeds require soaking for 24-48 hours before planting. Just in case you planned on pulling this craft out to do on a whim, there is slight prep to it, although we didn't soak ours (it's too early to tell if that has affected the growth of the seeds).

My best friends to young-ins loved this product. They have since transfered to small pots and everyday look at plants to check for growth. Awesome gift. Will be getting more for a couple of nephews for Easter. This is perfect to help raise healthy minds. Parents. grandparents, aunts and uncles will smile with pride as they the watch their kids dig this gift. Packaging designed to generate excitement.

Love it--great gift; but kind of expensive for what you get. There are only a few seeds in each packet, but it is a great way to introduce kids to gardening. I used it for an addition to an Easter basket.

We bought this for my 3 yr old who wanted a garden. He had such a great time with this , it was easy for him to do with little help from me. We already have sprouts and he loves to water them every day ! What a great way to get you kids involved in outside activities. We have ordered more. !
