Qualifying remarks: Feb 2nd I received my air rifle. I am no expert and have not shot a gun since I was 20 (over 50 years ago).Recently I purchased a Gamo Whisper G2 and a UTG 4-16X44 30mm Scope, AO, 36-color Mil-dot, w/ Rings. Could not hit the broad side of a barn with it (this is really an unfair to judgement). I live in the country on 10 acres so I shoot in the backyard.I have spent a lot of time on You tube, to understand how to shoot and have read a lot of stuff about the different break barrel rifles before purchasing the Benjamin Trail.I have read a lot of reviews especially were a lot of folks were have trouble with accuracy and there were lots of different reasons and were valid to them.Packaging was adequate, tighten all the screws as recommended, the barrel was clean and shiny (not as expected nor read). Pulled 2 patches through got some oil etc. Put the scope on and went out back a shot 50 pellets through it.Before receiving the air rifle I reviewed Tom Gaylord’s you tube video on the Artillery hold for air rifles[...] it is worth a watch especially if you are having accuracy issues. Now, I really had to focus to maintain the hold, I used a sandbag rest, the back of my hand is on the sandbag, hand is open with gunstock resting on it and hand is against trigger housing. My other hand is hold the trigger grip loosely, basically my thumb and trigger finger is all that is touching and the stock is not touching my shoulder. Sounds crazy but it works, yes it is a bench rest position, this is how I am learning to shoot, after I control this, I will learn to use the other holding positions (not ready for them yet).At my age patience is a virtue.I shot appx. 50 pellets into a 3 1/4” target and adjusted the scope and watched the shots group tighten up.The second 25 shots on five 1/2” bulls 30 feet away (not far but still breaking in the barrel and myself), I was able to cover all of my 5 shots with a quarter and some with a dime. I am using Crossman bulk pack 7.9 grain 1250 pellets and they crack like a 22.The toughest thing for me is cocking the barrel which takes a lot of effort, some state it gets easier, I think it is because you are tuning your muscles. The rifle is solid and is heavy when compared to the Gamo Whisper G2 which I will retry once I feel comfortable with the Benjamin.I am giving the Benjamin a 5 star rating – found nothing wrong, it was better than expected and I’m able to hit the targets consistently. I will move out to 60 yards and further as I learn to shoot and figure out the best pellets for the rifle. My biggest problem is getting comfortable and holding steady.I would make the same purchase in a heartbeat.

I've had the gun for less than a week now so there's a chance of updating the review in the near future. As with any scoped weapon it is up to YOU, the buyer, to get the thing zeroed in so you are hitting what you've aimed at. If you don't know how to sight it in then you're going to be frustrated. There are several youtube videos to show you how to set your scope. Watch them. Expect a breaking in period of at least 100 shots. I highly suggest using 10.5 grain Crosman pellets. The higher the weight is, the more accurate the gun is. It takes some strength to cock this gun. My wife had a sore shoulder already so it WAS difficult for her to cock it. If she hadn't been hurting already, she would've had no trouble with it but it is quite powerful and takes some effort to cock it.Bottom line is that I love the thing. I absolutely EXPECT shot grouping to be 'not great' until it's broken in. It weighs about 10 lbs with the scope on so KNOW THIS before hand, it's solid. The scope is adequate, not fantastic. Taking down small game, small - medium varmints will be quite easy with the power this gun has. 10.5 grain domed Crosman pellets don't break the sound barrier making neighborhood use ok, at least concerning shot loudness, and finally, it's not a toy, it's powerful, and if you're not very arm strong you will have difficulty cocking this gun. Knowing all this, I love the rifle, recommend it, and will update this review every 100 shots or so until about 1000 have been shot. By then this review should be a completely honest assessment of the Trail NP XL 1500.

Accuracy is no problem. Power is no problem. Noise is no problem.“The more you shoot the quieter this rifle gets and the better you shoot.”Allow me to address any question or concern. Now I am very huge on accuracy and am an expert shooter, I will revisit this point later. To start:Step 1 this rifle out of the box should be cleaned of excess grease and oil, run a bore brush through the barrel too.Step 2 Tighten all screws with a screwdriver, the two stock screws, the trigger, and butt plate. & scope mounts and scope.Important important important...tighten the big screw holding the barrel to the receiver. You will need to remove the stock to access this screw. That will be the two side screws on the stock and the two in the trigger well.NOTE: this is a magnum air gun, shooting it will loosen ALL screws throughout this rifle. Use blue Loctite.Step#3 Break it in shooting cheap daisy pellets into the dirt or a whatever. This is not for practice, only to break in the rifle. (Needs to have a break-in period. in this period this rifle is burning off excess oil and grease and seating in all its components. Failure to do this will result in poor accuracy.) 150-500 pellets.Next: IMPORTANT this rifle likes 10.5 grain and up pellets. Anything less will cause poor accuracy. Recommend Crosman Premier ultra mags domed. Or JSB exact monsters 13.4 grain.Look it’s like this, the more weight (grain) of the pellet, the more accurate this rifle. Reason for this is this is a Super Mag rifle. Light grain pellets will become unstable flying out of this thing at blazing speeds loosing accuracy. Heavy is better, more kinetic energy delivered on target means more destruction. This is Crossman big dog flag ship of break barrels. It is worth the money if you’re interested in moving up in shooting ability.Follow these steps and your new xl1500 will be the pride of your collection.Last few things, if you’re having problems with shooting this rifle after reviewing these steps then revisit to your shooting techniques. Don’t call crosman. Their cust service just says to exchange it. These steps will make this rifle perform and remove frustration.Ps. revisiting my past statement…I’m getting nickel groups consistently at 50 feet in a sitting position. @ 100 feet I’m still getting picking off birds holding over .25 mil dot on the scope provided.I recommend this rifle.
