If like me you still use rim brakes rather than disc brakes on your bike you'll soon find that keeping a wheel true is essential to positive braking and not having to set the brake blocks at a sub-optimal distance, taking longer just when quick reactions and coming to a stop on a sixpence are essential safety considerations. Wheels can get out of true due to knocks, particularly received from potholes, and you can observe them simply by slowly spinning a wheel off the ground. That's where this low cost but good quality Houson™ wheel truing kit comes in handy. What you get is a set of small, compact tools easily carried in the back pocket of a cycling jersey or taking up residence in your man cave. The kit comprises:• Spoke key• Spoke nipple wrench• Y-shaped hex head tool• Y-shaped Allen™ head tool• A single, metal tyre leverSupplying one tyre lever is a strange choice - you need two to remove a tyre, and this is old fashioned metal. That's fine if you have steel or aluminium wheels, and particularly so if you ride a relatively low cost bike; but not so if you have carbon rims as a metal lever is highly likely to cause rim damage if you aren’t very careful - use plastic levers instead.A spoke key is a small tool used to adjust the tension in the spokes. This features the common – and less common spoke gauges:• 14 and 15 - DT Swiss, Sapim and Wheelsmith spoke nipples• 14 - most European spoke nipples• 13 - most Asian, most e-bikes, tandems• 12 - Shimano C50/C24/RS10/RS30There are also rarer 10 and 11 gauge slots provided, so this tool really is one size fits all. It is a well made, solid chunk of metal that will last forever and is clearly stamped with each gauge size.Everything here is well made and should last a long time. Everything is small enough to be carried for long distance, self-supported rides where carrying tools is essential. I really like this kit, with the exception of the tyre lever which is still fine for cheaper or mountain bike style wheels which are more robust. At just £12.99 it’s a lot of kit for your money and useful items to have in any cyclist’s tool chest. Could it have been better? Well, a paper leaflet showing correct use of the spoke tools would be nice as this is an area likely to be unfamiliar to many cyclists as truing a wheel can be a bit of an art, and knowing how to adjust and the differences based on which side the spoke is pulling is something you can learn via You Tube™ but could just as readily be taught to beginners via a small leaflet. That however is but a very minor complaint and overwhelmingly I’m extremely happy with the kit and its quality which I think is excellent.

Who doesn’t need extra spanner’s and Alan keys , handy 3 way multi tool. Also comes with spoke adjusters, I won’t be using the one tyre lever ?? Who uses only one ? Anyway I find the metal versions do more damage to the tube.All in all a decent little tool set .
