This is actually a legit pottery wheel. The box is metal as well as the spinning plate. It's very durable and can get covered in clay and still operate.I got this for my 10-year-old daughter who loves to try new things and she has really enjoyed using this. We did have to do some research on the appropriate clay to purchase as that can make a big difference in her ability to use this. She really enjoyed all of the tools and sculpting different things on the wheel. It kept her entertained for a couple hours. Which is a good thing since clean up on this is a little more cumbersome than I would prefer. Since we have lots of Amazon boxes laying around, next time I will cut an edge down and set this inside of it so she can just throw it away afterwards.I'm really glad this came with all the little tools. Since this is more of a beginner kit, having different tools to experiment with really made this More fun!

This wheel seems to be a good place to start for a beginner or someone looking to make particularly small pieces of clay art. I would suggest starting small and slow. It seems to take a good bit of practice and you want to start in an open space where the spinning clay won't make a huge mess (and maybe lay some plastic sheeting).

I got this pottery wheel for my daughter, who’s in grade school, and she’s been having a blast with it. It’s compact and easy to set up, perfect for her small space, and the kit comes with all the tools she needs to start crafting. While it might take some practice to master the wheel, she’s excited to experiment and create little pottery pieces. Only problem is, I guess I didn't think about the mess.... whoops.

I got this as a gift for my daughter, but I haven't yet given it to her, so obviously haven't used it yet. But it came packaged nicely, and it came with a ton of different parts to create pottery. The wheel turns quietly and smoothly, so it should work fine as a pottery wheel. It is small for sure, but not so small that would make it a toy and useless. You just can't make big size vases or different pottery on it and need to go with smaller designs. That said, it is nice to have something small that does not take a lot of space also. Overall, a nice pottery kit.

I might have been better prepared if I had ever worked with a wheel or clay before. The instruction manual did give some hints, but the wheel is pretty tiny so it gets off balance easily. The clay isn’t included and the kind I purchased was, perhaps, heavier than the ideal weight for this wheel. Children will probably love this because it can really throw the clay around the room. I will be getting other types of clay to try the wheel again in a few days. If you’ve already used a wheel and are confident in your techniques, then this, I think, could be useful. The toggle switch got pretty coated with clay, also, because my hands were covered with the stuff. It seems to have resisted breaking down, though, and still toggles on and off.

This is a fun idea for someone who is just starting to get into throwing pottery, but doesn't want to spend a lot on a big wheel. A good chance to practice, and if you use air drying clay, you don't need to deal with a kiln (although some studios will let you bring in your pieces to be fired for a fee).It was easy to get started on it, and it works just as its larger counterparts do.
