It's merino, not cashmere, so it's soft enough; the fit is perfect; and it does what I need it to do.However -First, a minor point about description: do not be misled by "cedar". It lacks any suggestion of green (resembling cedar scales) or reddish brown & cream (as in cedar wood). The fanciful name describes a medium dark gray, much more to my liking than the lighter version presented as "solid gray" (though it looks heathered). Product marketing either lacks color sensitivity or is as ignorant about trees as it is about wool ...... Because who else would design packaging that, in attempting to display a wool gaiter "as worn", inflicts more serious damage than ACTUALLY wearing it?The poor thing was first stretched across an approximately life-sized card with cut-outs, whose edges put in hard creases. Then the middle part got heavily crumpled and crammed through a bone shaped hole.Creases and crumples damage wool's delicate fibers. A bright light reveals numerous thin spots where the worst crumples were and visible lines where the fabric was folded around the card. After a week or two, the fabric's naturally sweet scent is starting to emerge, but a distinct musty odor lingers. This suggests it was exposed to excess humidity at some point. Wool fibers are particularly vulnerable when damp or wet.The card, not varnished (only inked), has little protection front and back, and at the edges, none at all. Any moisture it absorbed would have been transferred to the wool, particularly at its stretched and creased - its most vulnerable - parts. Wool is naturally water resistant but will trap moisture when it's all wadded up.This gaiter might last for a very long time were it not already weakened in places. It's a shame that the people marketing a such a great wool product seem to have so little knowledge and experience with the material. Good wool is not nearly as delicate as some suppose, but that does not mean it will tolerate abuse.

Recomendado.

The fabric is soft and feels warm and cozy/comforting and I like the fact it is made in Spain. It feels well made and that it will last. However, as a scarf replacement and my intended use as a gaiter this product failed me on my recent trip to Europe. The main reason is that it was too loose allowing cold air to hit my neck. I needed to fold it in half for it to somewhat work and zip up my jacket to the top. Some times for temperature regulation, you want to unzip the jacket a bit to vent, but keep your neck protected. This product unfortunately did not work well for that. For the record, I bought two, one in black and one in blue and brought both and both were sized the same way. So this was not a one off. I have washed them and dried them in high heat hoping to shrink them a bit, but this really did not work.I have other Buff lightweight gaiters and they sit around the neck with little air hitting the neck. So I am not sure why these are as loose as they are. It is a shame because they are good quality garments, but not effective to be used as a gaiter.

I thought this was scratchy and uncomfortable. I'm sure it would be warm but as soon as I tried it on I felt scratchy around my neck. Maybe I'm allergic to wool but I've never had a problem with wool items before.I got the polar fleece instead.

Re: the review about being scratchy. It's not more scratchy than anything else made of wool, and it's much softer than most. I don't notice it, but I am used to wearing wool. I much prefer to not breath through synthetic fibers. The wool stays warm even as it becomes moist with your breath. It's comfortable and warm. Does what I want it to.
