In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of extra protection from accidental impact.

This product was sent to me with the used lens I bought in one box - the lens and hood were not separate and not wrapped with protective material. The lens hood was dirty, sticky and has some scratches on it. I had wiped it with damp paper towel and dish soap and I could see and feel the difference.I thought I bought a new lens hood, apparently not.I do not recommend buying this product.

Earlier, I mistakenly bought a knockoff version that was poorly made and didn't lock in place, so it was responsible for many ruined photos when I bumped the lens hood and didn't see the problem through the viewfinder. Then I bought this genuine Canon model that locks solidly in place so the petals cannot get in the way of the lens and ruin your pics at shorter focal lengths like 24mm. I highly recommend that you pay a little extra for the genuine Canon version and get a much better product.

Lens Hood is easy to install and works a treat. Does not encroach on picture window like some. Only issue for me is the locking mechanism could be tighter, the hood can dislodge and fall off - like the last one. This happens when you are typically carrying the camera and you do not notice it missing!

Try to save a few dollars to get a third party lens hood and it does not work at all. So, finally get this one, yes, it is worth.Material is better and fits prefectly.

The Canon EW-83M is a locking bayonet lens hood designed to protect the EF 24-105 3.5-5.6 IS STM from stray light, doggie noses and raindrops. If you have an EW-83L or EW-83H hood lying around they also fit and work perfectly with the EF 24-105 3.5-5.6 IS STM.To install, align the Canon logo at 9:00, press into the groove and twist clockwise a quarter turn until it clicks into place. Although it twists on easily, it feels fairly snug once seated and locked. The lock prevents the hood from working loose due to rubbing or light whacks. To release, simply press the lock tab and turn counterclockwise.Fit and finish are excellent: quality plastic, fingerprint resistant matte black exterior and flat black interior to nix reflections (paint, not rayon flocking). Plus, the exterior finish is perfectly matched to the EF 24-105 3.5-5.6 IS STM lens. The hood can be reverse mounted for compact storage.The EW-83M is a wee bit pricey considering Canon omitted rayon flocking and moved production offshore (Taiwan) to reduce costs. Of course, inexpensive clones of the EW-83M/H/L are available on Amazon if you can live without the Canon logo. The bottomline is the EW-83M works well, looks good and helps protect the front element.
