There is only about 3/16 of an inch were the long plastic rod is connected to the bail. I was sliding it in per instructions. It slid in and was about an inch was sticking out, so I pushed on the end. I did not push very hard and it broke at the bail connection.The instructions should read: once started in the slot, pull in from the thumb release. 2 days past return limit.

I broke my lock lanyard and could find one local. This one can quickly and installed fairly easily so go ahead and do it yourself and save at least $50.

I purchased Nov 2015 it's now Sep 2017 and the release is still working well. I agree with the junk as packaged 1 star review. I ran mine under hot water for a while to soften it and straightened it out slowly. I'm still rating it as a 5 despite the packaging.Dec 17 2023 And still working well.

Worked out great. Simple to replace the old sun rotten piece. Layed it out in the sun for a while before installing to soften it up a bit. Was the exact samelength as the original on the 2008 Fiesta Awning.
