I’m a beautiful tea pot and it’s cast iron! I’ve enjoyed using it, and thanks for the addition of the strainer.

The tea pot arrived just as it looks on the picture: good looking and well made. The interior is coated with a black enamel that protects the water from being in contact with the cast iron.As a tea pot, this product does what it is expected to do. As a kettle ? well, if used properly, it likely works fine but the main issues with kettles: water runs out, kettle overheats. In that case, this is likely not the best choice. This is sold as a tea pot not a kettle.Anyway, I just returned from Japan where traditional cast iron tea pots are easy to find and, for the same (40 oz), they sell for about 17,000 - 18,000 Yen - or about $120 and are heavy to carry around in your suitcase. The interesting thing is that there are not many different types to choose from - except for size. Most stores that sell cast iron tea pots carry the same brand in a single color (black). There are very occasionally copper tea pots and and rarely solid silver tea pots for 2-3x and about 10-20x the price of cast iron. In the end, since I was looking for an item I could use every day, I went for this tea pot at half the cost of the Japan made one and it is perfect.

Pros: The kettle is aesthetically beautiful. It seems effective at heating water and I wasn’t as disappointed in the size as others who’ve reviewed (really what I’d expect for a stovetop kettle). The rope on the handle seems to be natural twine and is great to protect your hands, though I see it as more of a fail-safe than a potholder replacement. The main flaw I see in this is the little rope they have to keep the lid in place appears to be synthetic is not heat tolerant. The kettle itself came with no instructions and the Amazon information provided nothing about removing it before use. Perhaps it’s a rookie mistake, but I assumed if it’s meant to keep the lid in place while pouring when the kettle is hot, one could heat water with it on. Within seconds of the first use the exposed bit than hung down the side melted and detached from the kettle. It was disappointing, but most of the rope was still in tact in the lid. Then today when I had the water on a bit hotter, half of the remaining cord melted down the side of the kettle, causing damage to the kettle in addition to awful fumes. I’ve tried scrubbing but it won’t come off. This is only my third use and now the kettle looks awful, the tie down is useless, not to mention added concerns about whatever fumes will continue to rise as the synthetic material permanently melted to the side heats during each use. The design of the lid cord is completely flawed. If you buy this kettle remove the cord tying down the lid to avoid this issue.
