Once in a while I come across a product that seems simple, but really impresses me. This one fits that description. I just emptied it for the first time after using it just over a week, and I was amazed by how much litter it had captured. The mat arrives folded up with instructions on how to get it to flatten out. I recommend that you flatten it out upside down and put some weight on it for a day or two before using it. I put it under the litterbox right away with weight on the corners. It did eventually flatten out, but following the instructions would have been better.Once I put it in place, I immediately noticed that less litter was getting on the floor than before. The mat is a light, foamy material. It's soft to step on. The top layer traps the litter particles, and they are held between the two layers. You periodically need to take it outside (or over a trash can), press it together so the two layers separate, and empty the litter. It's not difficult.Detailed, thoughtful instructions are included for every step of the process. I thought they were kind of funny, because they use terms like "I think your best bet is," and "Somehow...," but someone spent time to make them useful. I'm sure they were translated to English, but well done. It seems like the seller of this product really cares. The product itself has exceeded my expectations. It's a simple solution that has greatly reduced the litter that gets on the floor. I have to sweep up around the litterbox much less than before. As I mentioned previously, I took this outside to empty it and could not believe how much litter was captured. That is all litter that would have been on my floor. This mat is no gimmick - it really works. It is well worth the currently listed price of under $30. If you want to contain that kitty litter from escaping the vicinity of the box, I highly recommend this product.I'm not one of those Vine reviewers that gives everything a glowing recommendation. We are told to give honest reviews, and that's what I do. It is rare for something to exceed my expectations. This product did that.

First ImpressionsWhen my new cat litter mat arrived, I was pleased to see it was well-packaged, neatly folded into quarters. The packaging included clear instructions for flattening the mat, which was necessary as it retained some bending from being folded. While this initial bend was slightly concerning, following the instructions helped it lay mostly flat within a day.Design & DimensionsMeasuring 23 inches by 14.5 inches, this mat provides adequate coverage for the area surrounding a standard-sized litter box. The black foam construction gives it a sleek appearance that blends well with most home decor, though I would have preferred more color options. The standout feature is definitely the innovative two-layer design. The top layer features a honeycomb hexagonal pattern that allows scattered litter to fall through to the solid bottom layer. This clever dual-layer system prevents litter from being tracked throughout your home while making cleanup remarkably straightforward.Materials & Build QualityThe mat is constructed primarily of black foam, not rubber as I initially expected. The edges are finished with a plastic fabric binding that provides structural integrity and prevents fraying. While the foam material feels reasonably durable, it lacks the premium heft and feel of higher-end rubber mats. One significant advantage of the foam construction is that it's lighter and easier to handle than rubber alternatives. However, this comes with potential durability concerns over the long term, particularly with regular cleaning.FunctionalityWhere this mat truly shines is in its practical functionality. The honeycomb pattern effectively catches litter from your cat's paws as they exit the box. But the real innovation is how the top layer separates from the bottom while remaining attached at the sides, creating a hinged design that allows for quick disposal of trapped litter.Simply lift the top layer and pour the collected litter back into the box or trash. This design eliminates the need to vacuum or shake out the mat, making maintenance significantly less cumbersome than with traditional one-piece mats.Cleaning ConcernsMy primary reservation about this product involves cleaning. The foam material raises questions about washability, as foam can deteriorate when exposed to excessive moisture or cleaning chemicals. The manufacturer doesn't specify if the entire mat is washable, which suggests spot cleaning with a damp cloth might be the safest approach for maintenance. For homes with multiple cats or cats that frequently miss the litter box, this potential cleaning limitation could be problematic over time.Value AssessmentDespite my concerns about long-term durability and cleaning limitations, the innovative design and functionality make this a worthwhile purchase for most cat owners. The convenience of the two-layer system genuinely reduces the daily hassle of litter tracking, which is ultimately what matters most in a litter mat.Final VerdictThe honeycomb cat litter mat offers an effective solution to litter tracking with its clever two-layer design. While the foam construction presents some cleaning challenges, the overall functionality and ease of maintenance make it a solid choice for most cat households. For those seeking a practical, moderately-priced solution to contain litter scatter, this mat delivers.Rating: 4/5 stars

We have two cats and just like with children, they are polar opposites with their bathroom habits. One is very dainty (our female) and our boy acts like he is digging for fossils or buried treasure every time he goes to the litter box. So...we needed a bigger mat than the one we had, and it also needed to be exceptionally good at catching litter when Bob the Cat Builder exits the box. This mat has saved the day as it's a good size where it works but does NOT get in the way...it is excellent at trapping the litter in the front of the box where the cats enter and exit...it's easy to clean and sift the tracked litter out...and it's just a plain, all around nice mat that is constructed well and I have no doubt will last for a long time. There's no funky odor or anything, and the cats didn't mind it at all from the moment it was put down. (Our female cat would have preferred something in a more fashionable color, but she's a diva, so...)This has made it SO much easier to not have litter everywhere including our clothing - the litter box is in the laundry room, so it's not unusual to accidentally drop a sock and get it full of litter from our cat's latest archeological expedition. For the price, it's a fantastic mat and your floors will thank you, as will your broom and/or your cleaning lady who spends way too much time cleaning litter our of the tile floor around the box. I highly recommend this mat...might buy an extra just in case they get any ideas and start spilling litter out of the side of the box too LOL. CATS, am I right?? :)
