Seemed to work OK. Did not expand in volume as much as I expected. Used in raided bead applications under berry plants.

I plant very large potted plants and I have had the problem of the pots getting clogged up during the season which causes root rot. By adding Coco Coir, after expanding it, to the bottom of the pot first I no longer have this problem. I also mix some into the potting soil. I love this stuff.

I use this a tortoise substrate. It goes a long way. Easy to clean. Really neat how it expands and turns into soil

I have never used coco coir as a substrate, so this was new to me. I’ve always been more of a soil type girl. Anyway, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it yielded far less than I anticipated or I put way too much water into the bucket the first time? That was a total waste that just looked like muddy water and made a mess in the yard when it dried. I would recommend covering the brick with water plus a few inches and then just check on it to see if it needs more later. It has kind of a funky earthy smell and be prepared to get your hands dirty. I had some confusion on coco coir vs chips so I was a little nervous using this on my plant babies. After reading more I went ahead, but used it on a few plants that were struggling vs healthy/established. I think it worked out well though because they are all doing great! Apparently this is wonderful as far as drainage, but has no nutrition so keep that in mind when it comes to fertilization. It’s a good value and I see pros/cons in using it vs soil, but personally I like to dig in the dirt over this any day. Glad I tried it. I’ll use the remainder in the yard when planting or maybe mix it in with larger pots or definitely with cuttings. Happy Planting!

I didnt buy much because the description gave no indication if there was any equivalency to a bag of soil or not. And since i had never used coir as a planting medium before, i was unsure how it would do in my garden. So far nothing has died. My large veg beds are mix if shredded paper, organic garden soil and the coir. Some of the bricks soften quickly upon adding water, but some had to constantly need poking. I tried 3 different types. All were about the same. Still unsure if better to use. And havent seen many reports if any on coir.

Coco coir is new to me. I love the idea of self-regulating moisture in my plants and so far it is performing much better than expected. I decided to repot all my house plants and add it to some patio plants that will go back out in spring. Many species are all loving it. My spider plant is perky and showing out with lots of new leaves. My Christmas and thanksgiving cactus got a 50/50 well draining potting soil mix plus the coir and in just two weeks they are putting on new pads on all 5 plants! I added about 1/3 coir to fresh orchid chip mix for my ice orchids and they are all showing an uptick in air root production, even one that was virtually without any roots and one leaf left that was on it's last leg! I mixed a 50/50 with potting soil for Thai basil and purple sweet potato starts and they are taking off. I'm just really impressed with this product! It does have a not really pleasant smell when you first mix it but I found that it was gone in about 3 days and is normal for raw organic coir. The nutrient content is high and it was obviously not "salty" as I did not rinse it and my acid-loving plants are looking happier than ever. The soil is still very lightly moist in most of the plants two weeks after soaking it to a loose swell, mixing and planting and I did not water in the roots after repotting. WOW!Would buy this again but I probably won't have to for a LONG time! One yoga block sized brick made about two and a half gallons of reconstituted coir soil. It doesn't take up much space in the dry form and I will use it in the outdoor garden spaces as well. Love it!
