First know that the pin spacing on these is 2mm, rather than the 2.54mm that is common to the breadboards and DIP packages that are used by most prototypers and hobbyists. You can work around this by lightly soldering some 22AWG into it and wiring it onto the board that way, but it's annoying and silly.Secondly, after crawling through the mess of documents, datasheets, and example Arduino code, it would appear the the DIO pins cannot be used for arbitrary data IO as the datasheet claims. I can't be certain of that, since the only place their use is elaborated is in the example code, which appears to simply be turning some of them on during config and then later using them as predefined indicators of device state.I got these because they were half the price of other listings, came in a pair, and had a byte's worth of IO pins, but the apparent worthlessness of the pins and the hassle of getting them to interface with my projects makes me wish I'd bought something else.

I like how its in a compact easy to integrate package. I use it for a home security system to communicate between cameras and hub as I find wifi systems to be unreliable
