Having a trailer ball that matches your coupler size is absolutely essential. At CURT, we engineer our trailer balls to be precisely fitted. When we stamp 1-7/8" into the top of each hitch ball, we actually mean 1-7/8".This CURT tow ball features a ball capacity of 3,500 lbs. It is able to tow most utility trailers, boat trailers, campers, smaller livestock trailers and some recreational vehicle haulers (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component; i.e. the vehicle, hitch, trailer, etc). As with any trailer, be sure that your towing equipment is capable of handling the load before hitching up. This trailer ball also features a 1" shank diameter, a 2-1/8" shank length, 0" of rise and a nickel-chrome finish to protect against corrosion and wear. Like all CURT trailer balls, our 1-7/8" balls are tested for your safety and meet all U.S. VESC specifications.

This fits my small utility trailer and is what I needed. It is hard to find a 1" shaft for a 1-7/8 ball but that is what I needed and thankfully the price was right. You will need a hitch ball wrench and a vise to hold everything in to install this on the tow bar. I torqued it to 200 ft. pounds which was the top limit of my equipment. The lock washer did not fully crush until 175 ft pounds so be aware this takes a lot of uuumph to install properly.

1 7/8 ball. Thought I would never need again. Years ago I upgraded all my items to 2 inch hitches. Then I was asked to move someone else's trailer. Had a 1 7/8 with smaller shank but none for my pickup truck. Used smaller shank for 8 mile off highway use, but decided to get correct ball to have on hand. May never use, but I have it.

It was easy to install. Just make sure you have a two large crescent wrenches (aka tools) before you try to install it.

Great Curt product.Be careful, I bought this by mistake with a ball mount (in the same order), given it was proposed to me with the ball mount with a 3/4 inch holeMost ball mount for 1 1/4 receive will have a 3/4 hole, make sure you buy the appropriate ball regardless of Amazon suggestion that may just be incompatible.Not so sure that people "frequently buy" a 1 inch shank ball to go in a ball mount with a 3/4 hole :)
