I bought this rack and pinion kit with outer tie rod ends for a 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis LS, 4.6L, 4R70W transmission….. in case anyone wants to know. IT DOES COME WITH THE SOLENOID ON THE STEERING SHAFT.On to the review.I found Detroit axle a few years ago, when I started getting into cars a whole lot. I’m not a certified ASE mechanic, but there is a reason I get calls from everyone I know. I’ve now replaced hundreds of parts on dozens and dozens of cars, and I always try to find a Detroit Axle component before anything else (unless it has to be OEM for warranty purposes). Their quality has always been great, and always fit exactly like the original parts. You get a lot of bang for your buck, too. Compared to others, they’re extremely fair on their price. Easy job, easy money. This rack and pinion was no exception. A reman Motorcraft rack was $651. No way. Detroit axle came through with a part just as good at 1/3 the price. It does the job, very well. The only downside is that the tie rods that came with the rack weren’t the right part, but after corresponding with their customer service team, they’re sending the right ones, at no cost to me. I’ve started to send all my friends to Detroit Axle to buy their parts, and after this, I’ll be singing the praises.

I bought this rack and paid to have it installed in July 2023. I started having steering issues almost immediately, and my mechanic didn't entertain that we just installed a defective rack- we were looking at everything but that! As the steering issue continued to get worse, finally removed the tie rods from the wheels, put our hands on the tie rod ends attached to the rack, and you can feel the mechanism inside the rack bind up.To make matters worse, Detroit Axle advertises "Lifetime Warranty" on the Amz page. However to get the Lifetime Warranty, you have to send your old rack in to "activate" the warranty. No where does it say this on the item page. This is a bait and switch if I ever saw one.Amazon agreed with me and filed an A-Z claim. Do not do business with Detroit Axle.

Perfect fit. The 2 included tie rod ends were different from each other. One tie rod end had grease fitting while the other did not. No feedback yet about the returned core.
