Very good pickup...I cant describe the sound but is tone like a vintage...is easy to get good harmonics. My only complaint is about the lead cables..very tinny I think is 26 or even 28awg, the insulation is very stiff so you need to be careful when strip and solder.

I needed a neck pickup to go with a Fred in the bridge slot. Since the Fred is more "traditional PAF" than what I consider to be a modern or over-the-top humbucker, this makes picking a good neck pickup a little more tricky.I was going to just go with a PAF Pro or something similar - lower output, alnico V, no "additional" bass, etc. But the spec's for this one seemed similar, and Joe S. seemed to have it tuned to get a little more note separation. I think the price on it was also better than the PAF Pro.It really does seem to have all the qualities of a good PAF vs. modern or high output humbuckers. It's a little round and a little wooly - all those nice old "classic rock neck humbucker qualities" that I personally enjoy. Playing thru a Marshall with at least a pair of 12's is a real gas, even though this pickup is in anything but a Gibson/PRS/etc. type of guitar. It's loaded in a pieced together HH Tele with a paulownia body (lighter than even pine).I've had issues getting the right pickups in this particular guitar, and the PAF Joe is staying. As good as the Fred is, it might simply not be the best fit (it's just a little too bright at times). But the Joe is a keeper.I am super picky about neck humbuckers. I like some of the softness of a good old PAF, but w/o the muddiness that is usually the case with the real deal. Even lower output ceramic HB's tend to sound a little too modern for my tastes. And something like the Humbucker from Hell might be a bit too extreme for what I'm looking for - just the best qualities of the original Gibson design with a bit more performance. If that is the sort of combination of features you are looking for, this pickup might just do it for you.For these reasons, it's almost impossible not to give it 5 stars.
