Liked how you wrap a pipe without having to use tape.

Don’t let any part of it touch another part or they will melt together. Seems unnecessary it gets so hot that the plastic melts together, but it does work. I guess.

This is wrapped around a downspout to keep it from freezing. We've found from experience that putting any of these inside the downspout is a really bad idea - they're constantly moist and literally rot away in a couple of seasons. On the outside they last a lot longer. Of course the trade off is that you need several more feet. Love that this has a built-in thermostat. There are no shingle clips, and those cost around $15 extra. So if you're using these on a roof, you'll probably need those.

I have a propane regulator on my travel trailer that acts up when the temperature gets below about 28 to 30 degrees. This despite working on it to drain moisture and oil that gathers over time. Adding this heat tape gives an excellent improvement in performance so that the water heater stays on through cold nights as well as the furnace. This is also long enough at 14 feet to switch over to my water hydrant after I install a replacement propane regulator, hopefully in a few days. This features a tiny glow-light in the plug to assure you that it is on, and I could readily feel the heat turn on after it got cold. As recommended I wrapped the far end of the cord, which appears to hold the thermostat, against the regulator and wrapped it with foil tape.Review of EconoHome Heat Cable for Pipe Freeze Protection - Heating Tape with Built-in High-Temperature Thermostat - Self-Regulating Anti-Freeze & UV-Proof Heated Cord - 120V ACRMS - Copper Nickel Wire Heater

It's 17 degrees outside and my well is still working! That says a lot. My well is outside, in a freestanding shed. Even with a heat lamp and insulation, the pipes still freeze thus no water in the house. With this pipe wrap around all the above ground pipes, they are not freezing and thus we have running water in the house. The wire is ridiculously easy to install. I wrapped the above ground pipes with the wire, then wrapped the pipes with insulation. It took about an hour and that was it. No more frozen pipes!

I have one hose bib that exits my unheated uninsulated cold storage room and sticks out enough to be a frozen pipe concern for me. Though we don't see super cold Winter weather in Seattle, it has been down to the teens a few times this Winter and (shock!) there's been snow on the ground for close to a week. This 14 foot long heat cable plugs into a 120V AC GFIC circuit preferably. I liked that the 3 prong power plug has a small LED to show it is powered - but not necessarily "ON" as that is dependent on the built in thermostat at the end of the heat cable. The built in thermostat on the cable end turns on at 47.3°F/8.5°C and cuts off automatically at 59.9°F/15.5°C. The thermostat needs to be nestled directly in contact with the cold pipe as in my use in P.4, with my own nylon zip ties to secure it to the pipe. Stainless steel zip ties (I have those too) or binding wire are NOT recommended as they could cause a fault in the heat cable insulation. This solved my concerns about this one pipe. The cable is available in differing lengths and is outdoor proof too (UV resistant).I Recommend this EconoHome Store Heat Cable for Pipe Freeze Protection - Heating Tape with Built-in High-Temperature Thermostat - Self-Regulating Anti-Freeze & UV-Proof Heated Cord - 120V ACRMS - Copper Nickel Wire Heater. With the thermostat I won't need to remove it in the Summer, a plus.I hope you’ve found the information and my review helpful.
