UHMWPE CORD

DYNEEMA LINE TRUCKER'S HITCH

15x Stronger than Steel

UHMWPE Cords yield extremely high strength (15x stronger than steel by weight ratio) in a compact size and lightweight. Compared to utility cords or mil-spec paracords made of nylon/polyester, UHMWPE cords are much lighter and far less bulkier, convenient for outdoor carry, and easy storage with spools.

whoopie sling

Tough Cord for Outdoor

As high-tech performance cords, UHMWPE has unbeatable durability in excellent resistance to UV, chemicals, abrasion (comparable to Kevlar), almost no absorption to water, advanced cords for both home and outdoor uses, superior substitutes to steel wires, especially in water use.

UHMWPE CORD

Creep Resistance

Being of very low stretch, and highly resistant to creep, to flex-fatigue, UHMWPE cords have a better tendency to keep strength and retain shapes under loading. Longer service life, and much reducing replacement frequency for your most works.

UHMWPE/HMPE, Ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene, known as different trade names as Dyneema, and Spectra by different manufacturers).

Due to its high durability and unbeatable resistance to abrasion, UV, and chemicals, UHMWPE provides endless solutions for outdoor applications, especially in marine uses.

1.3mm,1.6mm, 2mm UHMWPE braided cord for uses in:

  • Guyline: securely tie out tent, rainfly, tarp, to the ground;
  • Ridgeline: set the sag of the hammocks;
  • Rigging line: bear bagging to hang your food at night;
  • Throw line;
  • Emergency fishing line and utility cords outdoors;
  • Kite Flying line: for giant kites, bridle line for stunts, traction kites;

How to seal the end?

  • Heat cut the cord and the end will self-sealed.
  • Use whipping twine to whip the cord/rope ends or spliced eye for extra security.

About Color Fastness

  • UHMWPE fibers don't take dye very well, and it’s normal that the color will fade after exposure to water, frictions, and handlings overuse.
  • HMPE CORDs keep high performance that won’t be influenced by color fading.

On Spool

  • Easy storage
  • Fast to deploy in use

Working Load Limit (WLL) = 20% of Tensile Strength, for the longevity of the cord and safe uses

Tensile Strength

Also known as the labeled strength, is the average testing strength at which the new and unused cord would break when tested in laboratory condition in accordance with Cordage Institute Standard Test Methods. The load, applied in parallel to the cord, slowly increases until the cord breaks.

Working Load Limit (WLL)

In practical uses, various factors would impact or reduce the strength of any rope/cord, including knots in the rope, abrasion, humidity, UV, former use and care, etc. To assure safe uses, it's indispensable to adopt a safety margin in the cord/rope strength, which leads to Working Load Limit (WLL).

The Working Load Limit (WLL) is determined by dividing the tensile strength by a safety factor. To assure the longevity of the cord and maintain a comfortable margin for safe uses, a 5:1 safety factor (20% of the tensile strength) is adopted and recommended for emma kites UHMWPE cord for general applications.

Use it for backpacking, better than paracord!

I used the cord for my kayak rudder system. The 1.6mm was absolutely perfect size for it. It's stringer than the old stainless steel rudder cable that broke and is lighter as well. Its stiff enough to run through the kayaks guide tubing and supple enough to be able to any knots you need too. Thus stuff is strong and as with all dyneema type cord/line it last a long while.

Excellent quality UHMWPE line!I needed to replace the wire cable in my kayaks, that is used to control the rudder, by means of the foot pedals. The existing wire cable was run through a nylon tube, through most of the kayak to support the stainless steel wire. The wire was old and had some rust in several places (kayaks are 24 years old). The wire was 1.5 mm diameter, so I needed this or slightly less diameter in the new style UHMWPE line. The 1.3 mm worked perfect and now there is zero friction, to operate the rudder. A tech tip for those doing the same thing: cut the fitting off of one end of the wire cable, carefully drip soapy water in the tube and run the cable back and forth, to free up the internal rust in the tube, then using air from a compressor or a can of air to clean keyboards, blow the nylon tube dry. Cut the new line longer than the cable (maybe up to ten inches, dip the end of the new line and the bare end of the wire cable, into a solvent, such as alcohol. Let the solvent dry, then using a gel style super glue, glue the line to the wire and let cure for an hour. Lastly pull the old cable out of the nylon tubing and feed the new line into the tubing. Cut off the wire to line connection, then tie the new line to the rudder (wrap around screw and tie about 6 half hitches. Do the same to the pedal slide.

Combined with a couple of pulleys, makes for effective cord to hang food barrels while canoeing. Very light weight. So thin it is hard to grip though.

Strong and light. Perfect for tarp ridgelines as long as you don't don't put too much weight and are carful not to tangle it

I got the black 1.3mm stuff. It works great for what I need, but it may not be great for you. I sail a lot and am fairly capable working with single-braid dyneema.The line is certainly dyneema, but I don't know that I'd trust it even up to the SWLL of 105 lbs. I noticed that the ends of yarns were sticking out of the braid in places, it looks like maybe they swapped yarns out in the middle of a braiding run? I've never seen that in any high-quality line. I'm not going to need anything like 100lbs of strength, I mainly got it to make teensy soft shackles, so I'm fine with the quality.You (or at least I) can splice it and do other single braid marlinspike seamanship things with it. I made a couple of spliced loops with integrated soft shackles on the other end, which I'm using to connect my camera strap to my camera. I also made a lanyard for my waterproof phone case. I used a small knitting needle and a yarn needle (looks like a regular sewing needle but has a blunt tip and a large eye) in lieu or regular splicing tools. To do long buries, I'd half taper the end of the line to bury, put it through the eye of the needle, the pull the needle through like a hybrid fid/d-splicer. Honestly I was pleasantly surprised at how possible it was to make the things I wanted. 1.3mm line is quite small, but I could tie diamond knots and taper then ends just like it was "real" line.The color appears to be in a waxy coating, not dyed into the fibers themselves. The ends of my fingers got black while I was working the line, and I expect the color will rub off on anything that rubs up against the line. I know that dying dyneema is hard, but I'd rather they offered a natural grey option.Lastly, somehow the roll I got is permeated with a revolting smell unlike, but evocative of, vomit. It dissipates quickly when you unwind the line, it's just odd.

Too much stretch in the line

I bought this item at full Amazon price, so no compulsion to be anything but honest in my review...Cord seems very strong and is light. I am happy that I noticed very little stretch (ie when pulled taught as a tarp ridgeline, though I'm going back to paracord as it's so thin, my prussiks don't hold as well to it). In contrast to a review or two I read, I **WAS** able to splice this fairly easily to make some continuous loops and shackles, etc. It did not fray on me. The cord I received has 12 strands that can fairly easily be un-twisted - I undo about 1" at ends and trim individual strands to make a taper on the end prior to splicing. I happen to use a mechanical pencil tip to help unbraid the end because there's always one laying about on my desk and have had no problem with fraying. Yes, if you pick at the ends of the INDIVIDUAL 12 strands in the braid, they will unravel and fray, but don't do that, there is no need!!!I was worried that at 5/64 I might have trouble splicing. Not so. It is hollow braid like I hoped and while I found i have to "scrunch" it up a bit to loosen the braid a bit, when I do that, I can easily get my fid or wire down the center and create burries 3-5" long.So far it's held the few knots I've thrown in it fairly well (overhand, double bowline, Flemish bend, taut-line hitch), though it is a bit slippery. I use it to hold things far less than it's load rating, so cannot speak to how strong it actually is and given it's slipperyness, I would NOT use it for anything where failure could lead to me falling or something heavy falling on me. For example, though, I can get a very tight ridgeline for a tarp and prussiks made from it hold tight to a 3/8" nylon rope to hold my "small" kayak up to a wall very well with no unintended slipping.As other reviewers have stated, the color is a bit of an issue ... It looks fairly red when on the spool, though not quite as saturated as on my computer screen. When you handle it a bit, it fades quickly to a pink color. I looked but did not notice dye on my hands or clothes though, so no problem there. I don't know if it will weather well or not - I do not plan to use for extended outdoor use so don't really care. The intensity of the color was/is not important to me - using this for ridgelines, guylines, loops to use for prussiks, etc. If i want high-vis, I have several different types of reflective cord, so not taking a star off as it doesn't affect me - just be aware if, unlike me, you are buying for the color. Handling, performance, etc., I'm still very impressed with this cord and would reccommend it as well as likely will buy more from Emma Kite based on this experience.
