This was the only outdoor camera I could find that was wireless, worked with Apple HomeKit, and does not require a subscription. The included solar panel is a convenient accessory to ensure never needing to charge up the camera again.

I have three other cameras from Eufy. I bought this because it looks like it doesn't need the Home Base unit. I just tried linking it to my app and it says says I need to get a Home Base. The description doesn't say Home Base is required, only that it connects to it. My other cameras can also connect to Home Base too, but not required.Returning this.

Eufy security cameras are super easy to setup (a few minutes each) and rapidly provided perimeter surveillance when dealing with some illegal activities in the neighborhood. I'd had a hunch that more was happening in the middle of the night than I was fully aware of. After installed a set of cameras I discovered within a week that my neighbor was using drugs, prowling cars and menacing things at night, to an extent that it required police attention. The presence of the cameras now serve as a deterrent the neighbor who has been put on notice by the police, while providing a "trust but verify" level of security. The Eufy security scandal came to light right after my purchase. So I was tempted to return them and choose a different brand. Eufy were caught red-handed with personal data on their servers that was visible by third parties when they claimed no personal data was uploaded. Supposedly this "bug" (or feature?) has been updated. I am always wary of Chinese software companies and am aware that they may be slurping up more data than they should. But the immediate illegal activity in the neighborhood that was discovered at the time outweighed the chance Eufy might be installing spyware code in their app and reporting to Beijing. So I clicked "OK" on the EULA, with some reservations.I have found the security system to be stellar, notifying me of questionable activities even when I'm hundreds of miles away. I like being able to check on things remotely. I have 4 cameras installed (including the doorbell) and the system gives me total surveillance of the premises and the car. I can even see how much snow has fallen to know whether I'll need to shovel or not.Of note, the base station is updated remotely and automatically by the Mothership. Being pretty tech savvy, I'm aware that while your personal video data is stored on the local unit, it seems the base station software can be accessed by the Mothership via wifi. If software can be updated remotely at will by Mother, then it seems logical to conclude that anything on the base station would also be accessible by the Mothership since it would have to have root access to this appliance to make the updates. While Eufy claims your data is private, there is no way to verify this with 100% with regard to Eufy. So beware.I would recommend with one caveat, assume the actual "privacy" of your surveillance videos may be limited and Eufy's claims cannot be readily verified.

A couple years ago, I tried Eufy cameras out. Mainly because they support HomeKit! Fell in love with the cameras, and how well they worked for me. The picture quality is fantastic, Though HomeKit limits to 1080p, Not Eufy’s fault though. However what is their fault is the security risks they’ve elected to overlook, and place a bandaid on it.Because of that, I can not - in good faith, recommend Eufy camera’s anymore. At least not without telling a person to do their research first. That said, Eufy makes a great product, And I’ll keep using the cameras outside of my home. Their range is more than fair (with a good router). Battery life, is great overall, However that depends on your cameras settings, and usage.I easily get more than a year out of some of them, that I only look at a couple times daily. But only a month or two with my others that are catching motion throughout the day or being viewed for more than a few minutes each day.Night vision is really solid, and good range.Sound quality, Is decent. Cuts out some as I talk through it, But can hear voice from it really well. It’s important to note, You are NOT able to use the mic through the Home App, same goes for the light on the 2C Pro. So you will need the Eufy app to not only use all your features, But also have the full 2K resolution. So, Again. Love the cameras, Very much dislike the company at this point and my trust is completely gone in Eufy.
