Easy to use and very accurate like all Silva compasses but the lack of a luminous bezel makes it impossible to see the degrees at night. The only luminous markers being the needle and 2 marks in the direction of travel. Furthermore the degrees are marked on the lower outside ring on the bezel making them hard to read when looking down while using it. Still, it works great as all Silva products do, but there are better choices

Si vous savez utiliser cette boussole, elle vous servira en rendonnée. Très utilse par exemple en rendonnés de montagnes sans guide.

This old Eagle Boy Scout bought this compass as a gift to a new Boy Scout. This Silva compass is just as high quality as the Silva compass I was gifted way back in 1968. Great value for the quality.

I love this compass. Held magnetic north reliable every day. Adjustable declination was a plus so you don't have to do math all the time. Had to go to bsa scout shop to get a compass pouch that holds it secure and snug though. Bearing numbers are easy to read during daylight. Haven't tried at night but can tell in a dark room that the needle is hard to see in nighttime.

This base plate compass has an adjustable declination, set it once for your area and no need to perform declination adjustments when going form map to compass and compass to map. Has a magnifying section in the base plate, and scales for 1/25K, 1/50K, 1/24K, 1/40K. Bezel has a comfortable rubber grip.

I started with a cheaper one. WASTE OF MONEY. It wasn't long before the cheap one developed a large air bubble making it totally useless. not even heavy enough to keep as a paper weight. Could be used as a Christmas tree ornament. The Silva is so superior for only a few more dollars. It has a break away neck lanyard. Built in declination adjustment key. The neck lanyard has ruler measurements which can be used for measuring distances on a map. Has everything else the cheaper compass has and probably more things I can't think of right now.

Great compass and very easy to use but has a couple of issues which I am sure the manufacturer could easily rectify. Firstly it has luminous marking in all the correct places EXCEPT on the compass needle so makes it tricky using at night as nigh on impossible to see which way the needle is pointing. Secondly the clip holding the lanyard together is a bit flimsy and there is a possibility of loosing the compass when it is hanging around your neck. I am sure he manufacturer could make a male/female coupling with threads which would be far more secure.

Really well-made baseplate compass for any Scout or outdoorsman. Has a few extra bells and whistles than many average users will not need, but they're nice to have. Declination adjustment is a nice touch and is easy to use with the included tool. Keep in mind...no compass will do much more than tell you where North is unless you know how to use it in conjunction with a map.

Works well. Is as accurate as you take the time and effort to correctly use the baseplate compass. Meets it purpose, is well constructed and cost effective.

I like the user interface of this compass and other Silva compasses. Such as the Silva Expedition G 360, Silva Lensatic 360 Engineer and Silva Ranger 2.0. All have the same problem. Weak luminous on the North Needle. What good are all the other luminous markings (which are nice and bright) if the North-needle is so damn dim you can't see it after 2 minutes? Silva must have bought a gazillion of these needles balanced with thin luminous and are working through inventory. All in all, Great in daytime... not so much for night use without constant lighting with flashlight or glow-stick. Adjustable declination, yes. Subtle Clinometer, yes. I also like having the map orienting lines in the capsule unhindered by a company logo as the competition has done.If having bright working luminous is your top choice/priority, go with the competition (suunto). If you want daytime use with clean usable markings, go Silva!
