ok, let me start by saying. This tub drain, at $40, felt like the right price. But some stuff here is crazyy... Read other reviews...1. The tub chrome drain does not seat in the brass tub shoe. (See photos) You can see that the silver part when screwed fully into the part in brass, leaves a 1/2" space. Even with the included 1/4" black rubber washer, there is still a 1/4" of space left over. My tub (standard bootz tub from home depot) is around 1/8" thick. THis means that there is no way to prevent a leak other than 1/4" of plumbers putty... Is this a manufacturer defect? I think so... If I stack 2 rubber washers, maybe I can tape up the space, but come'on -- how long will that last? Where does one source a 2nd washer?2. Just like other comments, the brass pipe screwed into brass tub shoe leaks.. It is a threaded part (NOT press fit). and it feels like there is a sticky glue on it, that was not applied around 360. Make sure you unscrew it and teflon tape it, and screw it back together.3. As others have said, the leg on the bottom is short, to meet up with the slip coupling of your existing plumbing. Needs to be longer to match the alternative plastic options....4. The icing on the cake; The stopper mechanism to keep the tub from draining leaks. Yes, I fully adjusted it. The tolerances are simply too sloppy to prevent water from leaking. From full, the tub will completely drain in a few hours....I emailed the mfg to understand if this is my fault or an issue with the one I received. will update based on the response I get. UPDATE: MFG told me so far that all of the above is my fault. I asked them for a replacement unit... lets see. But a replacement unit will not cover the cost of labor to remove the tub and get this thing re-installed... EDIT#2: MFG stopped responding, so this review is accurate.

worked perfectly. As heavy duty as the one I took out that was installed 35 years ago

While the materials feel and look good there are a few issues. At the drain shoe is a connection that will leak. You will see a lot of reviews to this affect. The connection is not properly sealed and requires modifications to work. Secondly the pipe to the overflow is too short. If your tub is over 12” you will need to purchase an extension tube and if your tub overflow is over 14” the drain stop will be too short. There are lots of other options that are slightly more expensive but well worth it. Spend a little bit more and save yourself a lot of cussing and swearing while squirming on your back trying to take this one in and out several times only to jerry rig it and hope for the best.

All of the parts that come in this kit are individual parts packaged for easy shipment. Parts are not pressed or soldered. The user may adjust for many different installations. With that being said, disconnect at each joint and use plumbers tape or joint compound. Tighten appropriately and install as you wish. Works well with shallow tubs. Measure the height of the stopper to overflow drain. If greater than 10 inches you will need a12 inch or longer tail piece. I think better specifications would be helpful. The manufacturer should supply a 12 inch pipe instead of the 10 inch piece. I’ve reduced the rating to 4 stars because the overflow pipe is too short as other buyers have said. As stated above pipes are screwed together tightly; however, they must be unscrewed. Apply pipe joint compound or teflon tape. Don’t attempt installation before applying either sealant. Likewise measure the height of overflow to drain. It is a painful reality to find a bad fit. Working under a house is often uncomfortable and dirty.

As others have already stated, the lower horizontal brass pipe will probably leak at the joint where it connects to the shoe (tub drain mount) but it can be corrected. FYI, get the tube wet and hold your hand over one end of the tube while blowing air with your mouth into the other end ("it's still clean at this point"). You will probably notice air/bubbles from the joint. Anyway, I had already cleaned the brass and was going to just solder the sections together but while trying to remove the "press fit", I discovered that contrary to what other have indicated in reviews, this is not a press joint but is actually a tightly screwed in threaded joint. I was able to grip the two sections in my hands and unscrew them by giving it all I could while flexing them back and forth. There doesn't appear to be any joint compound or tape so it's no wonder it leaks. I wrapped Teflon tape on the threads, reassembled it tightly and the leak is now gone. It's a shame that you have to do anything to a brand new part but this does make it work in a permanent manner without resorting to JB weld, solder or returning it for something else. The brass material and other parts seem to be of good quality although the overflow tube is about 1/2" shorter that my old tube and the strainer bolt is just long enough to catch but they still have enough length to work fine. I think it's still a better solution than a cheap plastic version and it's more affordable than the other brass offerings so for those reasons I would buy it again and just know that some additional tape will be needed.

It was much easier to install than I thought it would be. It was virtually identical to the original.
