I wanted this collet holder so I could use it with a 3 jaw chuck. Some have complained because the flats are just unfinished hex stock. This is true, but they are very smooth, not rough. With a collet intalled I was getting .003" plus run/out on my 1st try. But by trying it in the 3 positions in my chuck, I found one that was only .001".I tried a couple of other collets & I was getting .0005 to .001plus. I think this is pretty darned good! I engraved some numbers on the hex flats so I can always match up to the lathe jaw numbers. I'm happy. A lot better than I expected.

For a "budget" tool holder, I was very impressed with the fit and finish of this holder. Compared to other collet holders, this is head and shoulders above them. I would buy this again and consider all other products from the manufacturer when looking for new tools.

Great for holding small round stock on a lathe, drilling from the chuck end, or milling hex heads

I haven't had occasion to use this collet holder yet, but it appears to be made correctly.

Mine showed up looking like a raw forging. Item description says this is hardened tool steel ground to 0.0005". The faces are not even machined, let alone ground. A file easily bites into the material. But the nut threads on smoothly, probably because there's no grinding grit to get in the threads. I put some precision rod in a collet and chucked this in my three jaw. 0.005" TIR. Useless, returning ASAP.

Flats on hex are not flat nor is it hardened as stated in the description. I cannot imagine parallelism is any more accurate. Plan to return if possible.Measured today. Each flat has a 0.005-0.006" crown. Rather than hassel to return, I decided to mill the flats. Now I have a too that I can use.
