It's a fluke. It's near perfect. The shipping was quick. They said Monday and it arrived Saturday. That's good because I left for work Monday and didn't have to wait on it.

It has undergone calibration in a laboratory, which attests to its remarkable accuracy. With its various useful functionalities for electrical measurements, it's indeed a worthwhile investment. The inclusion of cables and a comprehensive user manual adds to its value. It boasts an elegant finish and is comfortable to carry around. However, I would like to invest in some form of protective case to ensure it doesn't get damaged during transport. Ideally, it would be great if such a case were included with the equipment, although I understand that might be asking for too much.

The Fluke 179 is a nice piece of kit. However, if you don’t work with thermocouples for work, I highly recommend you just save yourself $100 by going with the Fluke 177, as they are the exact same meter outside of this function. Also, most people should go with the 177 instead of the 87-V, as the 87-V is overkill, unless you’re doing fine work with AC to necessitate needing micro amp readings. Also the Fluke 175, 177, and 179 are MUCH more ergonomic in the hand than the 87-V.Lastly, I am docking one star because as others have stated, the Fluke probes are very stiff and cheap. Probe Masters are cheaper and much greater quality. Save yourself the hassle and get some of those. The OEM ones come with high resistance, and even if you clean them off with isopropyl alcohol they will read very wildly. Just awful probes. Fluke, please do better.

The Fluke 179 is the Best overall value of any mid-priced digital multimeter. Accuracy is top-notch. It's easy to use. It's ruggedly built. It's a comfortable size. It has a big, bright, crisp display. It comes with a nice K-type thermocouple probe for accurate temperature readings, C or F. And, it uses a very easy to replace 9V battery. Unfortunately, this otherwise perfect package has two moderate shortcomings: 1st, Fluke packs a cheap, non-flexible set of test leads with it; and 2nd, the continuity beeper has very low volume and is difficult to hear even in a quiet environment. If you want a great all-around DMM, you can't go wrong with this Fluke.

I love the Fluke brand. Dependable quality and accuracy for the trade. I have been using these meters for 20+ years and would trust no other meter brand for daily use.Of my prior 3 Fluke meters I would say this is my favorite. I purchased the carry case and the magnetic holder for this meter too but miss a feature of the 75 and 77 series of the hanging notch built into the back of the case. I use to use this notch to connect to drop ceiling grids. Now they have an optional magnetic strap but this only works of course on metal.I also like the fact that I don't need to use my O-scope to check frequencies anymore. My O-scope even while being a digital unit is much bigger and a hassle to carry around. This 179 model includes frequency measuring.PROS:- Quality Build- Highly Accurate- Protective Snug case- This model includes frequency measurements and temperature (to caiibrate your stove)- Large display that is easy to read- Touch hold- Auto off feature- BacklightedCONS:- I wish they weren't so pricey

After reviewing several Fluke models, I felt this one offered the most features for the lowest price. It is typical Fluke quality: Well-built, fast, and accurate. I also purchased the Fluke i200 current clamp. I bought this as my personal meter, but I plan to purchase the same combination to use at work and out in the field for testing and troubleshooting up to 575 volts AC, 24 volts DC, 4-20mA DC, and AC current up to 100 amps.UPDATE 2/7/2019: I ended up purchasing a second Fluke 179 for work. It's still working perfectly after nine years of daily use. I purchased a third one to replace a 15-20 year-old Fluke that's literally been around the world on service calls - it still works, but some of the display segments are dim. The 179's I purchased in 2009 and 2010 have dim, green display backlighting. The 179 I purchased in 2019 has bright, white display backlighting. Otherwise, the multimeters appear identical.
