Nikon made two 18-300 lenses in roughly the same time period. Each one takes a completely different lens hood. Make sure you order the right one for your lens.I did.I've been using this lens for several years without a hood. I don't know why. Maybe I thought the hood would be expensive. Maybe I thought it would not work well at wider settings. Maybe I just didn't check. This hood is a perfect fit for my lens. It doesn't interfere with wide angle shots. It does help with glare and flare. And it is affordable, sturdy, and just plain works. My only regret is that I wish I'd bought it sooner.

Perfect for my Nikon 16-85mm lens. Fits well in either the stored on the lens position or in the working position. Holds on very well, no issues.

While this is a low-price lens hood, it acts like a low price lens hood. The hood detaches from the lens with the slightest touch. I think a good lens hood performs two functions: (1) block extraneous light, and (2) physically protect the lens from damage. This hood delivers light blocking, it's shape is nearly identical to the Nikon hood that I had lost. But it does not sufficiently protect the lens from damage since it pops off with the slightest touch.

No complaints with this hood. Fits fine on 18-300 and locks into place with a snap just like the Nikon branded ones. Also fits on the opposite direction for storage on the lens and securely snaps into place. I only have older hoods to compare to and based on those it maybe feels a fraction less robust. Nikon has definitely made some cost cutting moves as of late so it may be exactly the same as a current hood or more robust for all I know. Regardless this one is a good value and if it gets lost or breaks I'd buy another.

I am planning Tibet trip, and advised of not to bring in too many lenses to avoid dusty environment. This I purchased a new Nikon 18-300 travel lens. Through some research, I decided not to spend $35.5 for OEM hood, and go with this one. It looks and feels quite good, and fits perfectly with new lens. Hope it could last long enough for the coming trip. BTW, I compare it with my existing kit lens, the Nikon 18-140 mm, and found out that both lenses and hoods look almost identical in dimension, interesting. Actually I found out that both hoods were interchangeable, maybe I should not buy a new one! Yes, I recommend it.

I use it on a Nikon 18-300 mm. It does fit well and snaps in to place but it a bit too easy to unsnap. I use an over the shoulder strap which dangles the camera on my hip and sometimes the lens hood get nudged when walking - so maybe this is an extreme use case, but it is what I do :-)

Serves me right for ordering off-brand, inferior junk. You can instantly feel it is made of a softer, more flexible plastic than the OEM Nikon. But more importantly, it doesn't fit smoothly. The filter doesn't turn easily--it is slightly too snug--so one has to force it a bit. But most importantly you don't get the reassuring "click" that the filter has locked into place.I took a chance for $9 vs. getting the OEM Nikon. Lesson learned.
