I just moved into a house that does not have a handle on the garage. You have to walk through the human door, walk up to the far end of the garage, and then unlock and open the door manually. Adding this to the outside means I can just drive up to the garage door and open it. The lock is also really cool, it has this weird cross-shaped key, I guess to make it more pickproof or something. The way these work though people will just overpower them with a wrench if they want to open it, the keyway is more of a novelty than a security device. But like any luck, it keeps honest people honest.

I returned this item. The handle would not allow for the plate which the cables attach to to make a complete ¼ turn, which I needed for my application. A couple of the mounting holes did not line up perfectly, but that could be fixed with a drill or file. The handle could only be turned with the key in it. This made it impossible to unlock the garage door, then take the key out, and still allow the spring latches to engage. For example, if you wanted to leave the garage door unlocked all day, but still be able to open & close the door throughout the day and have the latches engage when in the closed position, this cannot be done without the key remaining in the handle.

Two problems with this type of T-handle the key does not come out in the unlocked position and if you try to open the door with the very long key, it can hit the header as it did in a in tilt up conversion that we put it on. The other problem is if your door is thicker than an inch and 5/8 this will not work. You have to purchase additional longer screws. They do not come in the kit.

Just painted and repared my garage door, not much need for manual locks like this nowadays with garage door openers, but my garage had one and had the hole in the door, so I figured I might as well replace it and make it functional while I was at it verses the non-functional one that was on there...First impression was the keys, they are 4 sided and only fit in one way, so you have to pay attention to the small notch on the key and the red mark on the lock (IMO overkill key design) I would not even know where to get a dupe key cut if I needed one... Second happy to see screw ferrules vs crimp, so much easier to adjust and replace vs crimp ones... Beyond that the lock works and looks a lot better than the one that was on there with so many coats of paint it looked like it was made from clay...
