Now my Garmin 8612 has a Yamaha page! Be sure to get the pigtail adapter cable as this cable does not plug directly into the Yamaha bus.

I have read reviews that complain about having to purchase two cables to achieve data transfer. But, Garmin to their credit only needs to make one cable instead of making numerous cables to match to so many brands. This cable matched perfectly to my Yamaha Bus cable that plugged into the existing wiring banks of my boat.

This cable provided instant plug-and-play communication from my Yamaha display to my Garmin MFD. However, you also need Yamaha part number 6Y8-82521-01, to adapt it to the Yamaha bus bar. Super easy install, and as soon as I powered up the electronics, the Yammy info was available on the Garmin.

It worked great. The Yamaha pigtail (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B469RR12?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details) plugs into this cable which plug into the J1939 port of the Garmin, 1223 in this case. The other end of the Yamaha pigtail goes into the Yamaha Net/hub. I had an open one that had a plug cover on it - pulled it off, plugged in the pigtail and magic.Of course all the Yamaha data then fills the display with CL5 screen and with more features than just on the CL5 and even better; the Auto navigation on the Garmin now works! To use auto navigation on the Garmin you need to; pick you point you want to go to, then select auto navigation on the top of Garmin MFD, then select start navigation (if you checked over your course first if you please) then select Track Point on the Yamaha nav buttons. It follows the Garmin route which automatically calculates a safe route with acceptable depth and avoids buoys and hazards.About $50 for both cables and really easy to install. If you have a Yamaha CL5 or Yamaha CL7 (I believe it will works with CL7 but I don't know that) and a modern Garmin display the has the J1939 port, you are in business.

Do not buy this item as it doesn’t plug into the clip already on the Yamaha motor NMEA 2000 connector. Like the other reviewers said it is the same plug and you can’t plug tow of the same ends into each other. Not sure how this happened but it is absurd. Buy the Lowrance one for more money as all the NMEA 2000 stuff works the same no matter who makes it.
