My freezer was not cold enough and fridge section was even worse. Friend gave me a tip and I swapped this out. Very easy to do and completely effective. Aftermarket ones might be ok but I opted for OEM hoping this will be safer and longer lasting. We’ll see how this pans out in the future.

Our freezer wasn't defrosting. The old heater was bad. This solved the problem and wasn't too expensive.

Went cheap the first time and bought the knock off. It off-gassed for weeks. I literally found myself wiping off cans of soda before I drank them to rid the smell. After about 12 months, the knock off failed. Do yourself a favor and do it right the first time with the OEM unit. I have seen posts saying that this was not branded but the unit I got definitely was.

Quick, easy installation, and seems to have solved our "icing-over" problem. We had to empty and defrost our freezer every 3 or 4 months for about a year, then got on-line, found this baby and an installation video on YouTube, and everything worked just fine! Been working for about 3 months now, and no problems with the "Frost monster" returning to the back of our freezer cabinet.

Purchased this along with GE WR50X10069 Refrigerator Defrost Thermostat & General Electric WR55X10025 TH10025 ERWR55X10025 and freezer is back in action. I read a bunch of reviews, watched a few YouTube videos and did the following: 1) Buy GE OEM parts (the kit for $19 is garbage! Been there and done that. Wasted so much time trying to save a buck. 2) Solder the wires together 3) Once soldered, shrink wrap them to be sure moisture doesn't get to wire connection.

I noticed things in my freezer we're really as frozen as they used to be, so started taking it apart for a look to see what was wrong. Discovered a glacier in the back of the freezer. Spent 5 hours defrosting it, only for it to ice up again a couple weeks later. After doing a bit of research, I found this high-wattage lightbulb is supposed to defrost the freezer, so bit the bullet and ordered this one which is a genuine GE part. The old one had indeed burned out, so I'm hoping this one lasts similarly - the old one had done about 7-8 years service so not bad really considering it is essentially just a high wattage lightbulb.Fitted pretty easily, it's a bit fiddly getting the brittle connectors off the old one but managed to get it all installed and its working a treat.Just be careful with it, it's very fragile. Also, If you're daft like I am and complete this job with the power still running to the freezer, be aware that as soon as its connected, it heats up very fast, almost instantly and is about 700 watts. It will burn you! Luckily, I was aware of this fact and avoided burns.Hope that helps, it's a very easy fix to keep your freezer going and a lot cheaper than simply throwing it out and buying a new one!

Saved me an expensive repairman bill. The part works and Youtube helped with the install.

Received in good condition. I tested it and installed it. In my case the fault lied with the main control board and not the defroster heater element. So, rather than buying a new main computer for $200 or more, I wired it with a plug cord so that I could just plug it into an outlet every month or so for about an hour. Problem solved. 😎

We recently had some trouble with our refrigerator and it’s actually a really long story, but the short of it is that we had to replace several parts because our coils were freezing up and there were 3 possible problems. The heater for defrosting the coils was obviously one of the parts that could have been the problem and after we replaced it with this GE WR51X10055 Refrigerator Defrost Heater and Assembly, 725 Watts, 12 Inch, and also replaced the main control panel, our GE side-by-side model # GSH25JSTCSS is running smoothly again and has been keeping both freezer and fridge at the proper temperatures - defrosting properly for over a week now. The old one might have been fine (since we think the main control board was actually the problem it's hard to say for sure), but we definitely know this one works now. It was not a problem at all for my husband to install - he’s not a refrigerator repairman, he just found some information online that showed him what to do and it was pretty easy and quick and he said this one fit in perfectly.

Some people may need to be educated when it comes to marketing gimmicks so they do not end up with the mindset that a box that says GENUINE GE vs EXACT REPLACEMENT is the same as saying GOOD QUALITY vs POOR QUALITY.This part is a direct replacement for the defrost heater part# WR51X10055. GE does not put their logo or name on every individual piece/part/screw on their appliances. Some people seem to think this product here is undeserving of a good review for this reason. But this is why many people are being led astray and misinformedHere's the facts about this part since I do have the original that failed in my GE fridge. This part is just a bracket that is designed to hold the bulb that acts as the heating element during the defrost cycle. The bulb, thankfully, is also included for this great price.1. This replacement bracket is slightly thicker and does not seem to be as pliable as the original. That just tells me it exceeds OEM standards because GE approved the original which could very well have been made slightly below spec and GE just let it go. But it isn't critical as far as the reliability and over-all quality as it should not affect how long it lasts. But just know the bracket portion of this replacement exceeded the original as far as quality.2. The bulb in this one was nice and clean with both ends sealed and secure. I have to say that the original had excessive corrosion on one side which caused it to fail. It appeared to have taken on alot of moisture which should not have happened so I can only assume the original bulb was not sealed very well or else it would have lasted longer than 4-5 years. I know some people that have gotten 10 years and never yet had their defrost heater go out on them. The other end of the original bulb was still in tact but did not look anywhere near as good as the new bulb as far as quality is concerned. My guess is that these newer ones are made a bit more sturdy because of the issues that have arisen since this part was put in circulation in the many units it now resides in.Which brings me to my next point. And this is to the whiner who only wants to see ORIGINAL GE PARTS on the box. He should do some research before whining about that because the truth might just reveal a truth that many over-priced parts vendors do not want you to know. We all are being led astray by those who represent the name brands. There are sellers trying to sell this part for upwards of $70 or more. Also, there are certified repair professionals who are not very happy to see these parts for such a good price and most of us are more than capable of installing them. So reviews that try to emphasis that a part is not GENUINE GE is actually trying to say that only Genuine GE Defrost Heaters are worthy. Well, the true definition of what is considered Genuine GE might surprise people. GE parts distributors are likely buying these same replacement parts from places that we now can buy from directly. That bothers them. This defrost heater was not manufactured exclusively by GE for GE products. It is in fact a universal part made for several different model refrigerators by Hotpoint, Kenmore, GE, and others. It's available from several vendors but likely manufactured by the same place. So to even gesture this part is GENUINE GE is borderline false advertising since the part was manufactured by a 3rd party and all GE did is approve the specs for the purpose for witch it was intended. But that same spec has been duplicated in other manufacturer models too and it should come as no surprise that the parent company Sears Holdings controls all the brands made by the following manufacturers:Whirlpool, GE, Panasonic, Sanyo, LG, Bosch, Electrolux, and Mabe MexicoAll these parts that you see that say Genuine GE are the same exact parts made by the same company who makes them for all of those companies listed above. They copy alot of designs to models made by each other and most people think one is better than the other based on their limited knowledge about what the truth really is. This defrost heater is of the utmost quality and the only things that separates this from the one you pay $80 for and says Genuine GE on it is the fact that a certified repair tech or distributor for GE products has the right to approve the part and say so. Nothing else makes it better or any different as it is a spec that is duplicated and sometimes even made better by some. So if you are a brand snob, try not to discourage the truth seekers who have a right to know what's really going on and deserve to save money whenever possible

i bought this product assuming it was a ge original part as described and as mentioned in other comments. what arrived was name branded " exact replacement" parts. it does work and looks identical but i feel i was mislead and over paid for an aftermarket part. i already installed the part since i needed it badly. i could have gotten a genuine ge part for cheaper but i thought it was to good to be true so spent the extra money thinking i was getting the original ge part, but i didnt. other people say they got the original heater , but i did not.
