Only used these once in last 2 years but easy to install/remove and worked well without the limitations, weight, and bulk of actual ‘chains’ with their massive vibrations at even the slowest speeds…these cables are better!

I have used this sort of tire chains for years. They worked exactly as expected. Easy to put on and did fine even though we had to drive on what was mostly bare roads. (Chains we’re required even for all wheel drive and four wheel drive vehicles without snow tires.)They will definitely rust once used, but that doesn’t seem to be an issue. They were challenging to get back in the bag after use, so I recommend carrying an extra (sturdy) plastic bag.

I've used tire chains for my cars periodically over the past 40 or so years. These are really nice! They are not super bulky & not practically indestructible, like the good old days. BUT, for the few times when they are needed, they are more than functional! They are compact and store very nicely; even come with a handy bag. They are extremely easy to install; chances are, it's not the best of conditions outside when they're needed! I like the cables vs the heavy chains for light to medium duty.I suspect that these won't hold up as well, as long as the chain versions. Not for everyday / long-term usage! However, having frozen nearly to death wrestling with the heavy chains, I'll trade ease of use any day.I'd seriously suggest also getting the tightener, Glacier has an inexpensive set for abt USD 8. But I prefer the multi arm versions - abt USD12 - 20. Also, in sets of 2 (two). Worth it!From experience, take the time to order the correct size for your vehicle! Also, practice installing them when the weather is favorable!Cheers!

Very very effective. I was able to go with my 2wd truck where some 4wd with bare all seasons couldn't. Didn't damage wheels, but rusty after three days of use. Appears to just be surface rust, but unsure how many more seasons these will last. Please read below to the end if you don't have experience with chain or cable traction devices. It may save you a LOT of trouble. The Glacier/ Pewag chain website has a very helpful sizing chart for thier passenger stuff.Be sure to check all applicable laws dictating when and where you can run chains on public roads! Also, don't forget to buy tensioners. They keep the chain aligned, which decreases the chances of failure and subsequent vehicle damage.Update: It has been nearly two years since I purchased these. Here's how they've held up. I have used them probably 10 times and put about 250 miles on them. Despite being very rusty out of the bag after sitting in the garage for the summer, they still work great. The rust comes right off with snow melt and abrasion. The rust doesn't seem to go very deep into the steel cables or adversely effect it's strength. If it's cold enough and there isn't a bunch of salty, slushy mess on the roads, they don't rust. As long as you rinse and hang them up to dry after each wet use, and don't use them for extended periods in those conditions, they can last a good while. WD-40 isn't a bad idea to help protect them further during storage. Also, DONT spin your tires, drive over 30 mph, or use them at all if there isn't enough snow/ice to isolate them from the pavement completely. A little wheel slip and CRAWLING on dry pavement with your hazards on for a few hundred yards to pull over and take them off is OK, but lots of wheel spin or time on dry pavement can shred your tires, or worse, break the cables and beat the living snot out of your vehicles body. They work best when you aren't spinning your tires, and going over 30mph in conditions that require chain's isn't smart anyway. Ruptured brake lines and hoses are also a possibility in the broken cable scenario, so keep that in mind. Follow the manufacturer's instructions to the T! Stop and inspect them frequently during use. These have the potential to cause lots of property damage or serious injury if you aren't being careful. I only use these when I can't avoid being on the road and they are the only option. I use them primarily on private gravel roads anyway. Snow tires are better, but in VA, it doesn't snow enough to justify the investment.

Purchased two sets of chains one for our VW JETTA LOW PROFILE TIRES front wheel drive and another set for our BMW LOW PROFILE TIRES rear wheel drive. Used the size selector provided for low clearance "S" and purchased the correct chains for both vehicles. Purchased two sets of recommended RUBBER CHAIN TENSIONERS for each vehicle. Used the VW JETTA to go snowshoeing on MT. HOOD; was easy to install the chains and rubber tensioners, didn't pay attention or any thought to the metal hooks or tensioners laying against the rims of our vehicle at the time of installation. Drove several miles with excellent traction and control to trailhead parking. The chains did their job and we had an excellent trek. Drove back down the mountain to designated chain removal area, removed chains and noticed the really SCRATCHED Alloy wheels on our vehicle. Will probably return both sets of chains because of the rim damage. I don't recommend these for low clearance and low profile wheels with the high risk of rim damage.

These worked much better than I thought they would.I used them on about 1 inch of ice and later on about 3 inches of snow for about 3 days. They were still like new when I took them off.Pros - light and fairly easy to put on. Fit my tires well and did not slip. Come in a travel bag and are easy to stow away in your vehicle.Cons - need to use pliers to make sure you can put them on snug. Keep a cheap pair of pliers in the travel bag. I would also put a few zip ties in the travel bag to keep the excess cable tied back, so they won't catch on anything. Cause a pretty good vibration while driving if there isn't much snow.I did not need to use the optional chain straps. I would recommend these for emergency or light use over a few days.
