Great design! I struggled with smoke backing into the house due to small liner and considered installing a chimney fan. This prodict solved the backdraft issue. And with embers exposed at the bottom, it's much hotter.

First this grate is heavy and well made, I was impressed. It also looks good in the fireplace. Tried it for the first time and I have to say I’m very pleased! Smoke stayed in the back and the heat was very noticeable! I would highly recommend this grate for everybody that has a fireplace and had to put with the smoke, great product!

Just ran this thing through a trial run tonight and so far I'm very impressed. The design works as advertised, it's not a gimmick. The fireplace definitely puts off noticeably more heat than it did with the old setup. Best of all, I can throw the poker out. The build is solid too. Very heavy piece, should last forever. It's not cheap but you won't regret spending a little extra on it.

This saved my 200 year old fireplace. I was having trouble with smoke due to a small flue and shallow box. But this rack helped keep the logs as far back as possible and now I don’t get any smoke. Added benefit is that it produces more heat and it’s easier to get the fire going. I’m buying two more for two other fireplaces. Also, I highly recommend you also use the back plate. It protects the back wall of the fireplace and acts like a heat radiating plate even after the fire is out.

Just tried this tonight and it works great. This was the first time in a long time that I had a fire that didn't smoke up the house.Pros: Works and the wood burns longer.Next to no smoke in the house.Cons: There's a bit of a learning curve when it comes to building fires with it. You need air to be able to flow between logs for a good fire and it's easy to get the wood squished together so that doesn't happen. It's not hard, but it requires a different approach. There was a smell the first time it was used as the paint heated up. Only happened once and it wasn't horrible. You DO NEED a fireplace backing if you get this as it will push up all the burning logs against the back of your fireplace which isn't a good idea. Don't get this without the back!!

My new house gave me my first experience with a fireplace and as a novice, I had the hardest time keeping fires going. Lots of poking, prodding, rearranging...not a great experience. I saw a YouTube video about this fireplace grate, went to Amazon and put it in my wish list. I wanted to be sure it would be worth the money. I finally broke down and bought the grate this Fall and what an amazing difference! The logs stack nicely and as they burn, they create a great bed of embers that provide a good amount of heat. It also seems that the wood burns more efficiently leaving less ash behind. Next season I'll be buying the cast iron wall plate from this company to see if I can feel even more heat. What I love most is that the wood does all the work. I no longer need to poke and prod to keep the fire going. I just add more logs and enjoy the experience.

Works exactly as advertised. Our fireplace is oddly shaped (in a corner, opens to the front and side) and we were hoping to find a solution for more heat and less smoke without buying an expensive custom surround. This thing is fantastic! There is a small learning curve at first, but once you figure out how to build the fire, it’s wonderful. Wood burns completely leaving very little ash. No smoke at all. Brilliant design. We bought a fireback as well and together they throw off so much heat!

I bough the S-5 along with the fireback. My fireplace is not deep so this was a good solution to prevent my apartment from getting moved out. I have not had any smoke outs since I got this. It appears well constructed and sturdy and looks great with the fireback. My only observation is that since the wood is more against the back wall, most of the fire burns along the front end of the logs instead of around the entire log which might make burning uneven unless you put a small piece of wood vertically in between the stack of logs/wood and the fireback.
