Described as Extra Large/Heavy Duty and it LOOKS impressive, but it's extremely light weight (12-ounces) for a meat tenderizing hammer. The hammer head looks like solid aluminum, but it's a hollow casting. No heft at all. Needs to be at least a pound and a half to be effective. VERY disappointed.

I could never understand why people are selling light weight meat tenderizers/mallets.Isn't the point of a meat mallet to be able to flatten a piece of meat?This is a TRUE meat mallet... not one of those feather weight toys that appear to be designed to flatten paper or flower petals. A nice heft... good double sided patterns... easy to clean... and the handle appears to be made to last.

Feels rather light but don't let that fool you. It pounds a good steak or boneless chicken. You do not even need to pound very hard for this to work because the head is a decent size.

I am using this almost every day. Does a great job of tenderizing meats. Finish on the handle is a little cheap but it works great!
