I don't know why they call chicken wire chicken wire, because most of it is terrible for keeping chickens safe. Almost any predator can tear right through it. Not this hardware cloth though. It is way stronger and harder to get through. It seems more likely to last longer and not rust as well. I used this to build a tunnel for my chickens to get from one area to another.

Wire fence 1/2 hardware cloth Vine review. Brand: ANZFY. If you find the fine print in the listing, this is 21 gauge galvanized wire. And their listing photos say “Hot dipped galvanized”. That 21 makes it lighter weight and easy to work with, so there is an advantage/trade off there. The 21 gauge likely means the expected life is going to be somewhat less than the tougher 18 gauge. But for a hutch/cage or anything that is not going to be repeatedly attacked and/or possibly even under a roof, this looks perfect.I will be planting trees in a rural location this fall, and I could be using this to protect the bottom 16” of the trunk from small animals and careless weed-eaters.Bottom line, there is 19 or 20 gauge hardware cloth here on Amazon for a bit less. But again, perhaps this is better for your installation.Adjusted RyanL Vine Voice rating scale:* Well below expectations. And/or Listing is false.** Below expectations and/or Significant listing errors or Significant problems.*** Neutral - some good, some bad. Or highly priced for no known reason.**** Meets expectations. Price seemed competitive when review was written.***** Exceeds expectations and/or the competition with Value. Unique. This is as expected and seems like good quality hardware cloth. It's a good size roll (16" x 50') and it's just the size I needed. The selling price is reasonable.

This is as expected. The welding looks good, so you shouldn’t have to worry about it breaking apart during normal use. We will be making raised platforms covered with this for our chicken run so the chooks can eat the shoots of grass, but not get down to the roots. This is a valid option if you are looking for hardware cloth less than 2’ wide.

Even when I was a kid, this type of hardware cloth gauge (21 gauge was easier to cut) of 1/2 by 1/2 was my favorite for building cages for my younger chickens until they reached certain size and small birds like coturnixes. But only if it was going to be installed in a wooden or metal frame. For the roosters and crabbing traps I preferred the lower gauges (which means they are thicker) and stronger. Very easy to cut compared to lower gauges as mentioned before. Judging by experience, this type of product can last for decades since its galvanized after welding. It's sort of flimsy to use on its own, but that's why they make different gauges for different purposes. At roughly 74 cents per linear foot, I think it's fairly priced considering I had paid more than 50 cents per linear foot more than 40 years ago!
