Has poor durability for $80. First time I went to use it the thing snapped at the hinge point where it pinches the wire. The first attempt to stretch wire actually went well, but literally the second part of wire I tried to stretch it broke on me. Heavy duty is definitely not a descriptor I would use for this. To be fair ease of use and functionality seemed good, but if you can't stretch more than one wire its not worth it.

This fence repair wrench is much larger and heavier than I expected. I've tested it on one section of fence and it worked fine. I'll update this review if there are any issues as I start my 20 acre refencing project this spring.

This tool doesn't come with any instructions, so the people who posted instructional videos on Amazon deserve a lot of praise. Also the narratives: for example, the product dimensions and weight listed in the product description are wrong. The reviewer named "Sanpete" provides the correct information. The reason I wanted to use this tool is that I recently put a fence covering on a section of fence, but saw when I was done that my fence was too bent up to serve cleanly as a frame for the cover. As a 68 year old woman weighing 102 pounds I was initially dismayed at the weight of this tool. But that turned out to be no big deal. The weight is what gives you enough force to do the job. The videographer Arrian Sevy shows how the contracted fence wire can be looped in cleanly to the repair wire, but a different demonstrator didn't do this. I wondered why. In my own case I know why not: I don't have the hand strength to bend that top wire down with the pliers. Instead I crossed the tool somewhat past its closed position to make the pinched area as small as possible, and wove the repair wire into it. (Photos #1 and #2) As you see, my fence has vertical wires. This tool doesn't help you with distortion in those wires at all. But it gave me a straight top wire to serve as a plumb line for manually pushing and pulling the rest of the fence into conformity. Then I used the pinched area at the top as a way to secure the covering in addition to repositioning all the the grommets (photo #3). I must say, that worked out well!

I've seen a description of this for another product and wish I had ordered it then. When I came across this product, I ordered it immediately. I've got barbed wire fencing that has breaks in it. The wire was taut when put in, so when a break occurs, there is not enough wire to mend them together. You have to pull the two ends of the broken wire together and then put a new piece of wire on both sides to connect them. Depending on how taut you want the fence wire, you have to pull the two broken ends pretty hard together. Doing that by hand doesn't work well. It takes a 2-3 person job and turns it into a single person and a really tight line. This product can also be used to tighten loose wire lines. This product helps do that in a slightly clumsy, but reasonable manner. You open the product up wide, near the top you put in the broken ends of the wire, then close up the product (which pinches the wire into place and pulls the wires closer together) and latch the chain at the bottom to lock the product. At that point, the two wires are being pulled tight and trying to open the two ends of the handle. Once the chain is on, you can put a new piece of wire maybe 2' long wrapped around the two pieces of broken wire. When done, take the chain off and (if you did a good job adding the new wire) you should have a taut mended wire. My attempts didn't work out real well with no experience, kind of still sagging. But that will improve with experience. The product has thick metal and should hold up to most situations. The metal is thick (1 1/8") on the stress side (where your pulling the wires), but thinner (3/8") on the edge side. This keeps the weight down and is not impacting the strength of pulling on the wires. I don't think it is going to bend the metal over time. The only concern that I had was the chain. I think it is OK, but it looks and feels a little cheap. If it becomes an issue, I can always replace the chain with something heavier. This product is also not designed to be kept outside, it will rust. The other issue that I had was how Amazon packaged this product. The product is heavy and it was placed in a large box with minimal paper padding. So the product was flying around in the box while shipping. Given it is heavy item in a big box, it shifted and man handled by the delivery company. All the joints were marred and the plastic covering the product were worn. It didn't impact the product, which is kind of designed to be bouncing around in a pickup truck or UTV bed in fields. I'd like to receive it freshly new and have me mar it up.
