Product description

This filter makes easy to adjust the brightness of a scene and have more control over the exposure settings of your camera, for both still photography and video use. The filter reduces light transmittance between approximately 1/3 and 1/400th of its original level, by rotating the inner filter ring. This allows a much greater range of shutter speed and aperture values to be set according to the desired effect. For example a long shutter speed can be used to blur water or crowds of people, even in full sunlight. The practical exposure range and light transmittance will vary depending on the situation.

I have the first version of this filter which is great and this time I bought it through Amazon and got lucky and received the second version which comes with a small screw in dial. The version 2 seems to be a little sturdier and bigger. Overall I love Hoya glass it’s really top notch equal to Tiffen in my eyes. Great well known brand you can trust.

Fantastic product! I use it on a Fuji xt2 for shooting video. Allows me to shoot with a wide open aperture in broad daylight and adjust exposure on the fly. The indicator marks on the side really set this one apart. Gets some dark spots at the extremes, but that’s to be expected. I can’t imagine shooting without it!

Does the job perfectly for video use to reduce light to keep the shutter for example at 1/50 for 24 frame per second settings in sunlight.Had no issue with it. Works like it should. Only thing to keep in mind, the lens cap does not clip on it very well so must take it off when I put back my camera in my bag. I hesitated to buy the Peter Mckinon edition from Polar pro wich is very expensive. Happy I bought this one instead. Saved lots of money and it works fine.

Hoya always produces high-quality filters (hence the higher price). I've found that the lower quality filters sometimes cause vignetting at the edges. This filter does not. I highly recommend it.

Holds great on my sony a6000. I bought the 52mm which is the smallest and I am using it with both my 40.5 kit lens and a 49mm lens (downsize ring bought separately). This is my first filter and did not know exactly what to expect, so far so good as it does the job specially for video recording. Aberrations? Well, it is on the manual included but not a problem. Color issues? Not noticeable, not a pro and doing basic color correction but always check your WB just in case.

While I've only used it about 8-10 times, I've gotten very good results. I primarily use it on a Fujifilm 58mm lens, with the adaptor. Using a slightly larger VD filter reduces any flaring or vignetting. I'll probably end up purchasing a more expensive VD filter setup as my landscape photography prowess increases. But for the time being, it's a very good lens for the money.

MUY BUENA RELACIÓN CALIDAD PRECIO. NO MODIFICA PRÁCTICAMENTE NADA LOS COLORES. SIN PERDIDA DE DEFINICIÓN, ALGUNOS EN LA WEB CRITICABAN LOS FILTROS VARIABLES POR LA PERDIDA DE CALIDAD. POR LO MENOS EN MIS PRUEBAS ESTE FILTRO NO HA TENIDO PERDIDA APRECIABLE. MUY CÓMODO QUE SEA VARIABLE, ASÍ NO TIENES QUE QUITAR EL FILTRO PARA ENFOCAR CUANDO LO TIENES MUY CERRADO. SOLO APARECE UNA CRUZ OSCURA CUANDO LO CIERRAS A TOPE Y TE PASAS DE LA MARCA MAX, ADEMAS,TE LO ADVIERTEN EN LAS INSTRUCCIONES.LO ÚNICO NEGATIVO, Y NO TIENE QUE VER CON LA CALIDAD DEL PRODUCTO, ES QUE ME ENVIARON UN FILTRO USADO O PROBADO, INCLUSO LA CAJA DE PLÁSTICO DEL FILTRO, QUE SE CIERRA CON UN CUARTO DE VUELTA, VENIA ABIERTA Y EL QUE LO USO NI SIQUIERA SE ESMERO EN LA LIMPIEZA.ESTO YA ES LA 4ª VEZ QUE ME PASA EN AMAZON CON MATERIAL FOTOGRÁFICO. PIENSO QUE ESTO SE DEBERÍA CUIDAR AL MÁXIMO. ESTAMOS COMPRANDO MATERIAL NUEVO, Y DEBERÍA LLEGAR INTACTO Y CON LOS PRECINTOS O ADHESIVOS DE FABRICA SIN ABRIR. Y MUCHO MENOS CON SIGNOS DE USO Y SUCIO.RESULTA MUY MOLESTO TENER QUE DEVOLVER EL PEDIDO.

If you have read many reviews about this filter, I am sure that you have heard about the cross that can appear across your photo although I feel it more closely resembles an "X" laid on it's side with some warping to it. And yes, this X does definitely occur, especially with the wide angle lenses. However, this problem does not occur at all adjustments. For example, if you are shooting a 21mm lens, you can still get about 5 stops out of the filter without seeing any intensity distortions. If you are shooting at 27mm, you can get 6 stops out of this filter without any problems. Once you get to about 70mm and above, you can really get at least 7.5 stops or maybe 8 with no issues. The big plus I felt regarding this filter is that I did not find any color distortions or chromatic abberations as I have seen with other ND filters I have had previously. In addition, this method is using two polarized filters which can be very nice with removing glare, especially out of water shots, while slowing down the shooting speed to get the nice smooth and calming look in your shot.

Hoya always makes great filters, and this one is no exception. Quality glass, no flaws and there are no flares or streaks in the filter. 1.5 to nine stops are great. I have used the filter many times now with only quality results. i can't tell you how many times I changed ND filters and lost opportunities. Now with a twist of my wrist: Voila! Great ND stops. Yep. 5 stars. Price more than well worth it.

Just got this filter last week. Before ordering it I did fair amount of research and realized that ND filters come with set of issues, vignetting, possibly a dark X in the picture, a dark blob in middle of the picture, color warming, etc.So when I used this filter, I was a bit shocked because within couple of hours of use, ALL THE PROBLEMS that I feared, showed up, the vignetting, dark X in middle of the picture, and color warming.Color warming is the most annoying of all. Sure if I spend enough time processing the picture, I can tone it down, but I don't want to be spending hours processing the picture.Having said that, the problem DOES NOT OCCUR every single time. There were occasions where the filter actually WORKED. Mainly with even cool light at a waterfall, and sunset on overcast day where the light was cool, it did allow me to take long exposures without ruining the picture. So the lesson here is that there are mainly NO ND filters that are issue free. The good thing about the problems mentioned above is that I could see them right away after I took the shots in the view screen of my camera, so I could change settings and respond. It would have been terrible if I missed my shots and problem showed up only during processing. So in my view, it is good to have this filter and use it sparingly. When it DOES WORK and you get a shot you really want to capture, it would allow you to capture something magical which otherwise you won't be able to. Also, this particular one does not break your bank. However, if you use it frequently, you are bound to ruin many good shots.
