It's unreliable. Video doesn't work most of the time. Rebooting 5 or 10 times the desktop might display once, otherwise it shows a black screen.

Updated: I came back to update the review, now I've successfully installed Ubuntu Server 22 on it, although the process is /not/ straightforward. The error I was getting (image attached) really is an installer error, and it seems is due to a bug in recent versions of the Ubuntu installer. The last known working version is Ubuntu 18.So here's what I did:1) Flash an Ubuntu 18 image onto a thumb drive2) Ubuntu 18 is old enough that it is not accepted by the UEFI boot, so it is necessary to turn off UEFI boot and switch to 'Legacy Enabled, UEFI Disabled' mode in the BIOS.3) Since I was very unsure of success in this attempt after many failures, I installed a new M2 NVMe to avoid trashing the existing one (which would be needed for a return). The first one I put in was not detected by the BIOS, but a second one exactly off the compatibility list was detected once I re-enabled the M2 SSD setting in the BIOS (which auto-disables when the NVMe is changed).4) Disabling UEFI in the BIOS disables the UEFI-only driver for the small VGA card in the system (go figure), resulting in a blank display from the installer, so it is necessary to use a DP monitor, or add 'nomodeset' to the linux stanza in the installer boot menu5) Ubuntu 18 install went uneventfully at this point.6) Before installing any packages run a system upgrade as many times as you need to get to the release you want (I went to Ubuntu 22)Enjoy!I would also add the seller was very responsive when I contacted them, except as soon as I mentioned linux told me to 'initiate a return'.I considered knocking off one star because of the hoops outlined above that I had to jump through to get to success were pretty considerable, but now it's done this looks like a pretty nice mini server, with decent performance at a good price.Original: Just spent an afternoon trying to install Linux, unsuccessfully. It is headed for the returns unless I can figure this out. Attached is the error I get in numerous attempts. The install USB is obviously valid, and the SHA256Sum is correct. If you've had success, please advise! Thanks.

I bought this mini PC in January to run as a small file server, it saw moderate use and was kept in a well ventilated area, around a week ago it shut off and I thought it might have been an update but it was not the computer is dead, I tried a new power adapter re-seating ram etc the machine wont even boot. For $219 I would expect a machine that has more then 11 months of life left in it. Also when I received the machine its wifi card was dead and I had to replace it, and the internals were not cleaned very well I had to properly clean the fan and heatsink etc..

Those random Chinese mini PCs might tempt you with "4K video quality" or "triple display support" or "low power usage". And yeah, they might support that, and the N100 or 200 processors they use are newer. But nothing beats a hard metal, sturdy case like this renewed HP EliteDesk 705 G4. It might not decode video faster, or be of help with the new fangled games, but for normal processing loads, doing simple (or even some intensive) tasks, or even building a file server, keep an eye on these units. They are built for the commercial/industrial sector, and they can prove their worth on those areas, in doctor's offices, or for managerial work, with robustness and long lasting capabilities.

I bought one for my kid who was always bugging his older brother for his computer to game. When I saw the RYZEN 5 PRO advertised, it was must get, as they've told me that is good component for (mild) PC gaming. My son likes the computer and has not complained of "lagging". Works perfectly for him and he can do his homework too. The fan is a bit loud though after a while of use, which knocked it to a 4 star rating. I bought similar ones (different model types) for myself and other child, and satisfied with HP Elite mini PCs which are super compact compared to a tower pc but works the same! Just make sure that you look at the storage to determine if it is enough for your use.

I bought this so that i could use it as basically a streaming device alternative to my TV. It has worked wonderful and all the parts in the computer device has worked exceptionally well. The only thing I have a complaint about is the WIFI card. (Although, when i ordered it, i was told there was no Wi-Fi card and would have to use an adapter) however, after a few tests and scans, i found out it indeed did have a Wireless Network adapter installed in it. It only supports 2.4ghz bands mainly, so i think i may buy a newer one so i can constantly get on that WIFI 6 and 5ghz instead. It can get a littler noisy when a lot of programs are running. But this is well worth the money and came with a free keyboard and mouse.

I bought this as a refurb from Tekrefurbs. It was clean, but had a bad smell, but nothing that some compressed air couldn't fix. It came with a 256GB Toshiba NVMe SSD, and one 8GB RAM stick at 2933. I replaced it with 2x8GB RAM (matched pair). It DID NOT come with a SATA cable ot 2.5" drive cage, but I don't plan on adding one...I'll get a bigger NVMe if I need more. The 2400GE Pro is snappy for a ZEN2 processor. It also included an Intel WiFi/BT card and dual antenna. And it came with Windows 10 Pro...21H2, so it took a while to get all the updates. Created a Recovery disk, and now debating whether to blow that away and install Linux on it instead. Now if only I could find a competent tech manual so I can figure out what all the empty connectors inside are for.Overall, I got what I expected in better shap than I expected...this looks like new. Thanks TekRefurbs.

As of December 2023, this HP Elite Desk is probably the best deal around in desktop computer. The reviews here seem to combine multiple sellers and various products, mine is the HP EliteDesk 705 G4 Mini Desktop Computer, AMD Quad-Core Ryzen 5 Pro 2400GE Upto 3.8GHz, 8GB DDR4 RAM, 256GB SSD, HDMI, Windows 10 Pro(Renewed), I’m not sure who the seller was, but they did a nice job with the referb and packaging - it was "like new" condition.HP Elite Desk computers are above average in build quality, built for reliable long term daily corporate use. Typically they’re better bet than computers designed for home use.Opening the computer, I didn’t see any cheap parts added by the refurbishment process, something mentioned in other reviews. One word of caution, the description was incorrect, and my computer shipped with DisplayPort video out rather than HDMI. This can be remedied by DisplayPort to HDMI cables, or interestingly you can add a HDMI port to your HP with this part: 906318-002 HDMI Port Small Board Card for HP 705 G4. .Overall this computer is an amazing value and the AMD Ryzen’s built in Radeon graphics are sufficient for my retro-gaming station. Emulators up to PS2 tested well, and it can even handle HD ports of older games from STEAM flawlessly. I’m not sure what the upper limit is for gaming but it’s done everything I’ve asked of it.

It's really great! It came in good physical condition, packaged well for shipping. It is small and reliable. The AMD 2400G APU is a full 65W "G" and not a 35W "GE" and it does a good job at light gaming, however it does run quite hot while playing games (85+ degrees). I recommend using AMD Chill to limit framerate in order to keep the temperatures down a bit. HP official website states that the max memory speed for this computer is 2666, however, it actually supports 2933! It was also bundled with a USB wifi adapter and USB bluetooth adapter! All in all I'm really happy.
