  • Lanite, which is named after llano County, Texas, is a hypabyssally intruded variety of rhyolite with phenocrysts of microcline and euhedral quartz.
  • Llanite is a rhyolite porphyry that consists of pink to brick-red feldspar and opalescent blue quartz phenocrysts encased within a brown to black groundmass hexagonal shape, and blue color. The blue quartz phenocrysts' coloring can range from light blue to dark blue. The quartz gets it blue color from ilemnite inclusions in llanite. Microcline is a form of feldspar and microcline phenocrysts can be identified by its reddish, rusty appearance.
  • The groundmass of llanite is typically dark brown to black where fresh. It largely iscomposed mostly of quartz and feldspar and minor proportions of biotite, magnetite, sphene, and apatite. Its dark color is likely the result of its fine grain size, as the black groundmass is generally finer-grained than the brown groundmass and the biotite and magnetite that are scattered throughout it.
  • Chemical: Granite rock. Combination of orange feldspar and blue quartz - a very rare occurrence of blue quartz.
