Sure, this may look similar to the $5 rope at the big box store, but this is NOT that. That is a rope designed for a 300 lbs. static max load. This is a rope that is heftier, more braided, more rigid, and is rated for 4,500 lbs., which will support the dynamic force of an average man falling a few feet (at which point the rope slack is absorbed and the Prusik knot kicks in). In other words, this is not a laundry rope, it’s a safety rope. This rope comes close, but not quite, to the ANSI 5,000 pound rating for most commercial work. So don’t bring it to a job site, but this is certainly suitable for hunting stands and small climbing (and frankly I’d still feel comfortable on my roof or on a high rail with this attached to my harness). What you should know:- Prusik knots are good; rope grabs may be (a little) better in some cases (i.e. ease of motion, ice/oil on rope, panic grabs, human error)...there is debate on this, but FYI.- The carabiner is also hefty. It has a gate with a key-lock nose and a screw lock, but it is not marked, and therefore not officially rated.- Minor item, but I like the color.Bottom line:Whether hunting, hiking, or maybe even pulling/winching, this is a rope that every outdoorsman should have in his (or her) kit. Yeah, this is designed to be a hunting stand rig, but the Prusik lanyard and carabiner simply adds to the value of the rope itself.

Prusik knots are fascinating. This one works well enough. I like that they include basic instructions for beginners that caution not to grab at the prusik and let it do its job. These work off of squeezing friction. In case it wasn't obvious, practice engaging and using this while standing on flat ground before your safety relies on it. There are ways to add pullies to make these self tending if you were wanting to use them as a sort of progress capture when ascending, but I'll leave that up to you to search up and explore. Stay safe, have fun! There are tons of other alternative prusik style knots you can learn. I prefer the valdotain tresse (VT for short) climbing hitch personally, but you've got to experiment to find what you like best.

Any serious hiker ought to always have a good rope in his pack with him at all times. This is a 30' hunting safety line with a prusik knot and a very heavy duty carabiner. They list this for a tree stand ladder, but this rope has so many more applications than just that. 30' is the perfect length because it's not too much and not too little and it's not too much to haul. This rope has a strength rating of 4,500 pounds and can easily hold a 350 pound man without any problem. The knot can hold up to 2,400 pounds. The rope actually glows when a flashlight shines on it so you are able to see it. We plan on having this rope in our dry bag for when we go kayaking and hiking. The rope in and of itself feels very strong and well made and it surpassed my expectations.
