Bent nose pair: I like IPS/Igarashi pliers. You can tell these are mostly finished by hand. They seem to be made from a good quality Japanese steel, and hardened just about right. Has a sight amount of flex under pressure, which is to be expected from pliers of this length. Everything lines up pretty well and the nickel-chrome finish is good. They function smoothly, and after a slight adjustment of the nut, there's no slop in the joint. I love that these are a slip-joint that can be adjusted. These are not a needle-nose, but a long nose combination style pliers. I expect these will be especially handy for hard-to-reach hose clamps. I probably won't use these for heavy-duty tasks as I have other, more robust pliers for those purposes, but I believe they would hold up just fine if I had to. IPS has many unique styles of pliers for different purposes. I'm very much enjoying all the High quality Japanese tools that have become available on Amazon. Straight nose pair: the jaws on the straight nose pliers do not line up perfectly lengthwise. The tip on one side is about one mm higher than the opposing jaw. This causes the small working holes in the jaws below the tip to be shifted off center from one another. This is from the joint pin hole being drilled up higher toward the tip on one handle than the other handle. The tip that sticks out looks slightly blunted, almost like someone hit down on it trying to drive the tips more flush to one another. I'm not happy with this pair. Though, they may technically function, it looks awful. If I made these pliers, there's no way I would have let these leave the factory like this. The tip that sticks out further will also show wear long before the opposing one. I would send them back, but I live in a very rural area and no longer drive, so It would cause me a great inconvenience to do so. I'll look into it, but I'd say I'm probably stuck with them.

These pliers are well made and performed quite well for me.In the photo's you can see a steel fastener for heat shielding on my son's 2008 BMW 528i. The head of the fastener was damaged. This heat shield is right above the catalytic converters and is important for preventing the carpeting and paint from getting hot. It's a "NLA" item: No Longer Available from BMW, and had to be removed so that I could remove the transmission to gain access to the rear main engine seal for replacement. The IPS HLS-300 made short work of getting the damaged fastener out, allowing for removal of the heat shield.I've been working on cars and motorcycles as a hobby for over 40-years, and pliers are my favorite category of tool because of the great range in flexibility and the amount of involvement by the user. No other tool provides the feedback to the user the way a pair of pliers does. The IPS HLS-300 are now one of my favorites.Would definitely recommend purchase of these.
