Arrived nicely packaged in styrofoam with no travel case. I’m disappointed. The description clearly says it comes with a hard travel case.

For the price, I was amazed by the quality and beauty of this Kalimba. The wood is a deep, rich acacia underneath a thick, glossy resin type finish. The kind you'd see on an expensive guitar. It arrived mostly in tune. A few taps with the included hammer was all it needed. I've ordered more so I can give one to every one of my nieces.

The product was received in great condition and I have no complaints. The box that comes with it is so well designed and it sounds exactly how you would want it to.

In reading through reviews for this product, I noticed that several people referred to the body of the instrument being made of cherry or mahogany. The product I am reviewing is definitely a type of acacia or a closely related wood and the product description says acacia. It is solid wood which is nice. The glossy finish looks nice, but makes it just a bit more difficult to hang on to than one with a simple oil finish. I have another kalimba with such a finish and it is easier to hold. One review commented that the two outer keys did not have sustain or clear sound. On the instrument I am reviewing, they both are clear and ring a little. By nature, the shorter keys will not ring as long as the longer keys. I did have to pluck them a little harder than keys more to the center of the instrument. The instrument arrived more or less in tune (just a tiny bit out on a few keys and not worth the effort to try to tune it right now-- will need to check YouTube for the tuning method as it is not described in the instruction booklet). One key was crossed part way over another, but with a little care was easily moved into its proper place.I have another instrument with 11 keys (in A major). The one I am reviewing has 17 keys and allows playing (full scales) in C major, A minor, and G mixolydian. The extra keys greatly expand what can be played on the instrument. Note names are stamped on the keys which is a great aid if tuning is required, and for quickly finding notes before you learn where they are. As others have noted, I do not see the need for the sticky note labels other than maybe they are more visible than the stamped note labels. I suspect the adhesive might be hard on the finish. The notes ring clear and the instrument has a nice, albeit somewhat mellow, sound. I have heard others that have a more bell like sound. This may in part be due to wood differences and certainly due to key material differences (size, thickness, and even composition). Keys are easy to play (fingernails are real help here) and not too difficult to pick out from adjacent ones. This kalimba has two wah-wah holes on the backside. I found them difficult to use, both from finger placement and a requirement to exaggerate finger movement, almost slapping the holes, to get the sound. I much prefer the holes on the sides where they are easier to reach and easier to use.The included booklet has tablature for a handful of songs. With little practice, a beginner will get the notes played reading the tablature, but unless a person has some background in music to understand note duration, that part of the tablature may be lost. It is not explained well at all.The case is a semi-hardshell case. It will protect the instrument from a short drop ( 2-3 feet), but at 5-6 feet I suspect that keys could be bumped out of tune. The case stores the included tuning hammer and the instruction booklet. The elastic strap that holds the kalimba in place gets stretched putting the instrument in the case and pulling it out. I suspect that, over time, it will become less effective at securing the kalimba.Overall, I will give it 5 out of 5 stars. If it were possible, I would dock it 0.5 stars for the super glossy finish (a little slippery) and the back side wah-wah holes. Both adults and children should find it a rewarding instrument.

This was a gift for my grandson and I had it shipped directly to him. He loved it and within an hour he was playing a song.
