I use this in my garage cabinet to keep the contents above freezing. It is inline with a temperature regulator. Good and reliable.

I was really hoping this battery heater would work but (because of some reviews) I tested it prior to installing it under an automotive battery and I am so glad I did. This is a KAT'S 224000X Engine Heater, though the AMAZON description says KAT'S Battery Heater, packaging states "Engine Heater", though the model number is the same on the packaging as it is in the Amazon description. As you can see by the photos, I used a zero to 220⁰ degree Fahrenheit thermometer and I checked the accuracy of the thermometer via a digital thermostat by Honeywell. Both (at room temperature) were the same - give or take 1⁰ degree Fahrenheit. Shortly after plugging the heater pad in, it exceeded the maximum temperature of the thermometer 220⁰ degrees Fahrenheit, which is WAY TOO HOT for an automotive battery. I will return both. (I ordered two) I recommend everyone who orders a battery heating pad, no matter what brand, to check its temperature output prior to installing it under your battery.

I'm using this as an Oil Warmer for my Emergency Generator. Pad is Exactly what I wanted to place under the Motor Block to keep the engine oil warm and not over heated. 60watt pad is perfect and is continually plugged in during cold weather

What the heck! This is labeled as and sold as a Battery Pad heater on Amazon. This is NOT A BATTERY HEATER! The packaging says, Engine Heater. The instructions (picture attached) specifically state, “Warning- Do not install on plastic surfaces, such as a battery”. Oh my goodness! Ridiculous! Zero stars would be appropriate here.

I’m reviewing the Kat’s 22400X pad type battery heater, with comments about other Kat’s products and some of these incredible reviews found here. I blame Kat’s in part for their packaging, which is the same box and insert for multiple products. The part number, bar code and description is printed on an adhesive label. You have to read closely to see what you’re getting. Note first photo. There is a cord tag that specifies the energy output of the product. See pics 2&3. Since the adhesive backed oil pan pads run 150+ watts and the battery type without adhesive only 60-80, it should be evident what you have and what it’s meant to do.About other Kat’s products: their coolant circulation (tank type) heater is amazing. If you just want warm oil, use a stick on heater, but if you want warm air to defrost the windshield via remote start, and warm your feet when you get in, add the tank heater. It’s the bomb. Likewise, the 60W battery blanket thermal wrap works best if you’re north of the 38th parallel. It’s also durable enough to outlast a few batteries—really good for that 2nd battery in the trailer pulling rig. That’s photo 5.Now about the reviews. Some don’t even mention the part number, so disregard those. Several times it’s mentioned that the pad gets hot enough to burn skin—duh. Would you lay your hand on your engine block when it’s hot? Darwin awards coming up.The funniest ones are the pre-testers. See photo 4, installation instructions. First sentence: these things get hot. Fourth sentence: don’t plug these in if the ambient temperature is above freezing. 32F. 0C. The pads, wraps, and some tanks have no thermostat—they are on when plugged in, and they will burn out. I use Thermo Cube TC-2 blocks with all my heaters and they work great and last a long time. That’s why I think the last line (4) in photo 4 is in error. I think they meant zero degrees Celsius. I’m not waiting for 0F to heat my oil, engine blocks, or batteries. When it’s cold, turn on the heat.By the way, Kat’s also saves money by printing all of their warranty, replacement and repair policies, and general cautions—for nearly all of their products—on one page of their ‘universal’ package insert. If that’s misleading, then maybe you should just take your vehicle to a repair shop to get heaters installed.

It’s my own fault but if you read really closely you can see this one doesn’t come with adhesive. I used weld wood contact cement from the hardware store to glue it in place. At -7*F ambient temp you can put your hand on it and feel that it’s kept your oil at room temperature. At 60WATTs it’s not a really hot one. I’ll keep it in place but in the future I’ll get a 100-150WATT one to replace it.

I got this to keep my battery warm in the winter months. It fit perfectly under my battery. There was not any adhesive material on this pad. I’ve been using for a couple weeks now and seems to be working well.
