I got this for my grandkids. They really enjoy their science classes, and are constantly doing little science experiments. This microscope was yet another tool they can use. They look at a lot of different things with it (their mom was not impressed that they checked out boogers with it), and they keep it fun. Glad I got it for them!

Our five year old granddaughter enjoys using this camera to "make movies" when she comes over, and to look at any and everything outside, especially if at a location other than our yard. She thinks the fold-out screen is fun, but I'm a bit worried that might be an eventual weak point with a child using it. It's not really what I would call a microscope, but it has a reasonable enough digital zoom range for a child to use. Most of the controls are not too difficult for her to use and keep track of, but they might be a problem for someone younger. The resolution on a computer screen isn't all that great, but so far, she's not into viewing her pictures there. An older child might want something similar, but with better functionality in that area.

This little digital microscope is a hit with kids. It’s super easy to use and a great intro to exploring the tiny details of everyday objects. The photo and video functions are a fun bonus. Perfect for younger kids who are curious but not quite ready for a full-blown science setup. Lightweight, cute, and educational!

This is a thing to play with a few times. This microscope does not magnify 10X as stated in the product description. Externally, it is a very cute device but useless. My 4 year old daughter got bored with it after a couple of times. Because she wanted to see real magnification in good quality, but did not get it.

Like others have said, this is not a microscope but a really fun macro scope. It’s designed with an adjustable hand strap so it’s easy to hold with one hand, even for littles. It’s fairly easy to operate. I only used the viewing and picture functions, since an SD card is needed (and not included) for video. It was easy to charge, but I was not able to pull up images on my computer.Overall this is a fun little gadget that has fascinated my nieces and nephews.

This is not a microscope; rather, it is a macroscope, and it has nowhere near 500x magnification. To put that in perspective, ~400x magnification is the rough benchmark for being able to see most bacteria. It's a fun camera with an effective light ring that allows one to take close-up photos. The focusing dial is easy for tiny fingers to turn while stiff enough that the focus does not unintentionally shift. The camera takes 2MP photos (1920 x 1080). The screen is bright enough to be used outdoors. The images look very good on the small screen. Very good. However, when viewing them on a computer monitor, the optical softness of the camera and lens are more apparent. The optical magnification is fixed; there is only a focus control. I measure the on-screen magnification as ~7x when the "digital zoom" is at 1x. I measure the on-screen magnification as ~11x when the "digital zoom" is at 4x. A generous take would be that they're practicing addition and not the standard multiplication. Regardless, the magnification level and the ability to focus so closely are sufficient to reveal otherwise hidden textures and structures in everyday objects. The buttons are simple and easy to use. The micro SD card slot can be tricky to extract from due to the nature of how the rubber cover is attached. It has an internal lithium battery that charges over USB. I have not benchmarked the runtime yet.At around a $15-20 price point, this is a fun toy. Once you start to spend much more than that, there are similar items that deliver more real magnification and better quality. As with all of my reviews, I'll update this one if/when I discover new things or have a read of the long-term durability.

As others have said, this isn't really a microscope, but more of a macroscope video camera for kids. But the ring lights are bright and allow them to look at things in dark or light. The screen is easy to see and out of the box it is very straightforward to use.Overall it is a fun little accessory that has a special place in encouraging her to explore her world and foster a love of science in little kids.
