Saw this spider reviewed on America's Test Kitchen. It's just the right size for my fryer. Well made. Very nice handle and the weave of the basket is top notch. I don't have much experience with spider skimmers, but I really like this one.

The skimmer is super handy, easy to use, and as was listed, easy to clean. I make a lot ofbeef vegetable soup for my co-workers during the winter (we spend a lot of time on patrolin cold weather), which is easy to heat and handy for quick meals when we're pressed fortime to return to duty. I have used the skimmer in the short time I've had it in practicallyall my cooking. Good buy and reasonably priced.

After trying several fryers, we have found that nothing beats a large cast iron and enamel dutch oven! Although I use a 15qt, I think most people would probably want something about 9qt like this Staub: https://www.amazon.com/Staub-Round-Dutch-9-quart-Sapphire/dp/B0043RSYJK/ref=sr_1_6?crid=1GGNS6Y5JO45J&keywords=9+qt+dutch+oven&qid=1551950164&s=gateway&sprefix=9+qt+dutch+oven%2Caps%2C191&sr=8-6 - It's an investment, but you'll find you use it SO much! The large skimmer helps more than once! I use it after we dump a batch of chicken or fries into oil to keep pieces from sticking together and to turn fish, chicken pieces etc over during cooking for even coloring. Of course, being able to remove nearly every piece in a batch from the oil at once IS fantastic, and this skimmer lets me do that too! The smaller size may work better for a 9 or 7 qt dutch oven, but if you do have a 12+ qt, you definitely want the large for it's versatility.

If you're lifting very soft food with this spider, the wire can cut into the food a little. This makes food stick or break apart. The handle is an even cylinder of stainless steel, which can get slippery during cooking. It would've been nice to have some shaping and/or texture on the handle to make it grippier. But, it's a good length, plenty sturdy for picking up heavier foods like fried chicken, and the basket is a good depth for picking up short pasta. All in all, a solid buy.

You might be tempted to buy a similar skimmer at a cheaper price.....Don't!I've been there and done that. The cheaper ones are flimsy with thin mesh netting that bends and warps. This skimmer is extremely well made with a sturdy solid handle and the mesh netting is thick and practically unbendable. And unlike the cheap ones with wooden handles, this cleans up beautifully in the dishwasher. As far as performance, it drains your deep fried foods beautifully. I totally recommend.
