The metal lasts longer than plastic which makes this a lot of value for money!

This arrived on time. I did not install it for awhile. I needed a round to it. ;)However, it lasted a few days, my cows broke it off of the stock tank. It is a waste of money and time

It's a really simple design and the main housing seems to be a good casting. It was very easy to install and is working perfectly fine so far. I got two of these, by the way. I figured that as long as things are kept clean, this should last for a while.

I have used Trough O Matics for the past 10 to 15 years and they usually lasted 3 years before having to be replaced for not stopping the water when the bowl was full. I bought 3 in a matter of weeks and all of them didn't stop the water from the start. I even tried the more expensive metal one to no avail. If you push up on the float it'll stop but when I let go it seeps in. I don't know if they changed the quality of the rubber stopper disc or the float size changed not allowing enough pressure but I have to move onto something else now. Too bad I liked them when it worked.

We installed this auto-filler on our bull trough this past winter. Despite the boys nosing, biting and bashing it, this tough little sucker kept bringing the water and never came loose from it's mounting spot in the side of the trough. We used it all winter in conjunction with a Freeze Miser unit that is something akin to wizardry. If you haven't seen them, and you have livestock to water in winter GO GET ONE!

This is for my horse stock tank. I don't know how anyone does without one! No more overflowing tanks because I forgot to turn off the water! However it is leaking out of the top. Not sure if I put it together wrong or what. Will call manufacturer for tips.

this water float valve has worked very well. i had to construct a way to mount this to an unconventional water container and it has worked very well. we don't use in the winter due to freezing, but the rest of the year it is great and give us one less thing to have to do around the farm -- check and take water to our flock throughout the day. note, depending on your water hardness you may have to clean this periodically to remove buildup.the worst thing about this is probably also a good thing. attaching a hose is not the easiest thing if it is mounted. if it is not mounted, you can easily screw on the end of a hose like anything else. but if it is mounted you will end up with a kinked hose if you don't spin the hose as you tighten to the valve. the reason is the attach point is fix, there is no rotating collar to tighten up the hose. BUT this is also a stronger connection, and likely helps keep the cost down a bit.my suggestion is to buy or contract a short hose that you can easily connect to the float, and then you can connect your hose from the water source as easily as you connect two hoses together.

This has greatly helped us during the hot months to make sure the horses always have fresh water. It works perfectly and looks like it will hold up for years to come.
